We are very lucky to have such a beautiful music scene in Denver and the surrounding Colorado cities. The melting pot of artistically inclined souls that fuel the nightlife and entertainment give this state a very special perspective.

Meet Camilo Ruiz aka Fiat LuXx, he is one of the top techno artists in the Denver scene today, bringing us not only some really original sounds but also a seamless mixing style. His presence in the dance scene is irreplaceable, from playing some of the top events in the city, to creating his INTIMAT Livestreams and club takeovers, to opening an underground venue space called EKO House. The list goes on, and on when it comes to the contributions that Fiat LuXx has made to the Techno scene in Denver, and across even the world. Stemming his sounds from a long background of instruments as a kid, he truly believes that passion finds you in this world in which case, Tech House has found him. LuXx found the abstract beauty in Tech House and has been surrounded in the Techno world ever since. "Techno, although I must say took me a little while to understand and fully appreciate has most certainly grabbed my full attention artistically. I find it to be a language that is completely open to interpretation. Most of the time, the lack of words allows one to simply listen attentively and make it whatever it is you want in your own mind and soul. There are no boundaries to what can happen from one moment to the next within a track, a set, a night, etc.," Says LuXx.

While he was initially introduced to the dance scene by Trance at around the age of 13 in Colombia, his first memories of dance music were from as early as age 7, which opened his eyes to a new realm and sparked his career in the dance scene. "One very interesting memory I have thought was the time I was probably 7 or 8 and my dad played a vinyl record by Tomita, a Japanese producer, and pioneer in the electronic music realm. That was probably the first time I ever heard a whole album made by computerized sounds.", says LuXx. Beginning his love with Trance, LuXx has always admired Eric Prydz for his true and original productions, which helped him derive the comfortability with his complex sounds in the House world.

As LuXxs' love for electronic music evolved, his passion behind true Techno found him and he completely submerged himself in creating the subtly profound sounds that make him Fiat LuXx today. It wasn't until "Later on, [when he found] Roger Sanchez and Joris Voorn were two individuals that always captured my attention within, House, Deep House and Techno." With both hard work, and dedication LuXx has risen to the top of the Denver electronic scene, allowing him to share the stage with one of his founding inspirations to the Techno scene, Roger Sanchez. "It was a dream come true to meet both in person and to have shared the stage with Roger," says LuXx. Fiat LuXx has since taken over some of the hottest clubs across Costa Rica, Colombia, Croatia, Spain, and America, making a name for himself and his company across the world.

While spinning the decks with some of the best DJ's in the world is an honor to LuXx, he cannot stress enough that the most important part of his journey with dance scene, which is finding his own eccentricity and sound that mirrors the passion he has for the intricacy in Techno music. "I would have to say my biggest accomplishment is to have found comfort in my own self as an expressive part of the scene and the art. It may be in the form hosting events, playing music, Making designs, sharing opinions, and anything else I feel comes from deep inside my soul. I feel like that is what liberates one as an artist and as a human being," claims LuXx.

The importance of finding the balance between his own sound-style, and a surrounding himself with enthusiastic spirits have set a foundation for LuXx and his career. He also looks up to "all of the local and out of town artists who are constantly pushing themselves and the scene to be better and innovative. I think there are certain accomplished artists who have definitely influenced the way I interpret music and perhaps even the way play it and like to hear it" states LuXx. The support from local artists and fans have made it possible for him to create success with EKO House and INITMAT over the past few years.

So what is EKO House? Well, back when Denver started growing immensely, Fiat LuXx, Kevin Callison, and Seth Nichols all needed their own space to work out of. At the time, Denver was going through some serious growth and rent was going up everywhere. I had to move my printing business out of the current building I was at and both Seth and Kevin were ready to get into a place we could all share and create a safe and honest place to enjoy music with friends and the scene in general" states LuXx. EKO House was a perfect fit for the workspace needed and has become a revolutionary space for some amazing Colorado underground since it has opened its doors.

Meanwhile, EKO House has set the stone for some of the greatest events, art, and live streams that Denver has seen through the artistic concept company called INTIMAT, which mainly focuses on the promotion of the underground scene through gatherings. As stated on their Facebook page: "Our vision is to encompass many forms of art and perception that compliment the music at play. This includes visual stimulus, art installations, themed atmospheres, and much more. Based in Denver, our dedicated CONCEPT ROOM is the perfect space to ensure a healthy memorable experience every time." "Id" is LuXx's newest experience project, which he has put a lot of heart and passion into. Basically, "Id" is an event which allows artists like LuXx to provide sound for an extended three hour set, which is also live streamed on the INTIMAT YouTube channel as well. "I love to incorporate visual artistry, via live stream/live video recording, audio recording, live painting, fashion, and whatever else we may find interesting and innovative," says LuXx. For him, 2018 will be filled with much more traveling, an INITMAT clothing line/ online store, and many more shows, live streams, and original music. Stay tuned for upcoming events by INTIMAT, from taking over the hottest nightclubs such as Beta, to hosting his own events at EKO House the intricate sounds of Fiat LuXx are definitely a recommended dose of Techno that Denver needs.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
