We often get so caught up in everything in our lives, from material possessions, to work life, family, or school, that we lose focus from ourselves. We only get one body and life, and should protect it with immense care. So how can we go about doing this? It's easier than you think.

Sweat

Don’t be intimidated when people say to work out every single day. You don’t need to have hours of cardio and weight training to receive those extra endorphins. A simple 20-minute workout that you enjoy is the perfect fix. This could be walking, swimming, riding a bike, or anything to trigger a little sweat in the morning.

Journal

When asked, “who are you,” we might jump to an answer we haven’t put much thought in, but do you really know yourself? Journaling helps you uncover who you really are by keeping track of your goals, nightly dreams, feelings, or frustrations. Sometimes reflecting back in writing on what goes on in your mind can help you self-analyze in a more in-depth way.

Hydrate

No one likes headaches or feeling lethargic. Hydration is a key factor to keep feeling well.

Look yourself in the mirror

This article is about being in touch with ourselves and creating better versions of us. We need to stare at our own reflection and be not only comfortable with what we see, but embrace it. Give yourself a little pep talk on how thankful you are for you (and yes, I’ve done this).

Count those blessings

Our mental state plays a huge factor in our overall health. Sometimes we get caught up in comparing ourselves to others or get caught up in what we’re dealing with. Taking a moment at the beginning of each day to think about all the little things that make your life just that tiny bit better can make a big impact.

Meditate

Meditation is great for your body and mind. Just as exercising is great for your body, meditation helps stabilize your mind. It can reduce your overall stress and focus, and in turn, benefit your body.

Maintain a balanced diet

Eating healthy and clean is obviously important, but so is treating yourself. If you deprive yourself of satisfying your cravings little by little, you might fall into a bad binge all at once. Strive for well-balanced meals. Everything is okay in moderation.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
