The future is female because women and men are finally stepping up and saying the gender binary system is old-fashioned and basically sucks. The future is female because of the movements like #MeToo, #CripTheVote, #BlackLivesMatter, #SayHerName and many more. The future is female because people are recognizing that all people matter, including all women, men, and non-binary folk.
This last semester, I took a class called Women Studies and Sexualities. I picked the class because I was genuinely interested, but I never considered myself a feminist. Most of what I heard growing up was that feminists were just blatantly angry women who wanted inequality but in reverse. Females superior to men, end of story. So I was always hesitant to stick that identifier to my name. I always said, "I'm a feminist, but…" Funnily enough, that was one of the first lessons in my Women Studies class. That there is no "I'm a feminist, but…" It's like wanting to go on a roller coaster, but only putting half of your body in the seat while the other half is flailing around in the open air.
Point of the story is that if you believe in equality, you believe in feminism. Because that's all feminism is. It's not some big, scary system that will eat you up if you're not female. It's the exact opposite actually. The design of feminism is supposed to include everyone, and I apologize if you grew up believing something different. I just think everyone should want to be a part of something that is only trying to lift everyone up from suppression. But that's just me.
The future of feminism is big, and it's bright because it's about everyone coming together to fight for equality. That's at least the basis of it.
