Currently in a modern day renaissance, the future beholds many conscious awakenings and liberating social movements. From the LGBTQ equal rights movement being put at the forefront of liberating revolutions, equally as has woman empowerment. Consequently however, with the rise of feminism, ill-informed presumptions have been associated with what feminism is actually about.

Feminism is not about the triumph of one gender over another, it is about equality. Myth like this along with other varying myths in regards to feminism have been created and need to be put to rest. Feminism is widely talked about from an ill informed perspective. Whether or not one is aware, this revolution is one in which everyone is apart of. Becoming aware to what this movement is all about is something to be knowledgeable about. Knowledge can be liberation, lacking to be informed to the reality of modern day movements like feminism can only fuel the fire of the misconceptions of feminism.

1. Feminism is about the triumph of woman

Feminism is often mistaken for being a movement in which is solely about the domination of one gender over another. This presumption may be the leading thought in which gives people a timid and resentful demeanor in regards to being a feminist, consequently validating one to remain on the other side of ill informant. Feminism is defined by the advocacy of women’s rights grounded by the equality of all genders. Feminism does not discriminate and it also does not bind itself to solely woman as advocators of equality. Men and woman are both encouraged to become supporters of gender equality. Again, man hating is not supported through feminism and the associate that it does needs to be stopped. What feminism does disapprove of is patriarchy. Patriarchy is the idea that men are superior to woman and are the dominant sex. Those who call themselves feminists who hate men because they are the gender they are is not feminism and draws the line between being an feminist and not being a feminist.

2. Feminists are pretentious and stuck up

Labeling feminists as pretentious stuck up individuals is as unaware as labeling all Muslims terrorists. No individual or group should be classified as being one entity based off of one association or representation. Additionally, not all feminists are violent and aggressive activists. While various movements like feminism, feminists can engage in protest, rallies and other forms of outlets and can be peacefully. As much as the media and individuals may have a tendency to associate violence and aggression with various movements, these types of outlets are not bound to feminism and should not define the overall movement and way of life.

3. Only woman can be feminists

Just like feminism does not discriminate against men, feminism is not bound to solely woman as supports and activists for equal rights. Feminisms is a movement centered around equally opportunity and treatment for all. Anyone who advocates equally rights for all can be classified as a feminist for the sole reasons that feminism is founded on equality for all. Men as advocators of feminism and believers in equal treatment and rights for all will not only help diminish the poor associations of feminism and help regain the authentic respect that feminism is derived from.

Feminism is not grounded upon discrimination, aggression and disrespect. The foundation of the true meaning of feminism is entirely opposite of the ill informed and inaccurate associations it has gained. Help restore the true authenticity of feminism by becoming knowledgeable to what the movement is actually about.

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?
