It's not easy being a woman in today's society. We have to put up with discrimination and stereotypes just because of our sex! Even though it's 2017 going on 2018, women are still being put down, oppressed, oversexualized, and marginalized.

It's even worse that we have to put up with sexism and misogyny from political figures such as our current president of the United States. We sometimes have to work harder to get the respect we deserve and to be taken seriously; especially in the professional world. We can't let negativity get to us and stop us from achieving our goals.

As Cher once stated, ''Women have to harness their power – it’s absolutely true. It’s just learning not to take the first no. And if you can’t go straight ahead, you go around the corner.'' Listening to music is a great way for me to harness my power. After listening to an empowering song, I am ready to take on anything and not let anyone get in the way of me achieving my goals. If you're a girl or woman looking for the right female empowerment song, here is a list of my top 13 female empowerment songs.

13. "Fighter" by Christina Aguilera

This song will definitely bring out the fighter in you. It'll make you want to fight for that promotion, fight for that leadership position, and to fight for your rights!

12. "You're Amazing" by Jem

As the song goes: "...It's amazing all that you can do." Every woman should remember that about themselves.

11. "Woman Woman" by Awolnation

The song alone is powerful, but the music video displays how naturally beautiful and talented women are in a fun and energetic way.

10. "Girl On Fire" by Alicia Keys

Nothing can burn you if you're already on fire. Your flames are getting brighter each day.

9. "Run The World" by Beyonce

It's pretty much a fact that girls run the world. Some people just don't realize it yet.

8. "Electric Lady" by Janelle Monae

"A modern day Joan of her Arc or Mia Farrow...Electra, sophista, funky, lady..." These lyrics are just so electrifying!

7. "I Always Knew" by Jem

Deep down inside you know that you will be able to accomplish your goals. Sometimes you just need a reminder.

6. "Suddenly I See" by KT Tunstall

This song will not only bring out the fashionista in you, but it will also bring out the bookworm. #BrainsandBeauty

5. "Move You" by Anya Marina

This song moves me to go above and beyond in life!

4. "Miss Halfway" by Anya Marina

You'll hit a few roadblocks on the way and make some mistakes, but in the end you will shine. It takes time, but you'll get to where you want to be in life.

3. "Formation" by Beyonce

"Dream it, work hard..." Those are some inspiring lyrics.

2. "Q.U.E.E.N" by Janelle Monae.

Janelle Monae is such a beautiful lyricist. She'll definitely bring out the queen in you.

1. "Superwoman" by Alicia Keys

You can do anything. You're a superwoman!

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
