It's that time of year again... classes are ending, finals are quickly approaching, and all college students are going stir crazy. It's an overwhelming feeling and the one thing we're all sick and tired of hearing is, "It's almost over, summer is right around the corner." Well, yes, it very well might be, but in order to get there, we need to finish our classes and pass our final exams.
This time of year, everyone is talking about the graduating seniors; how it's finally their time to head out into the real world. They have to start looking for jobs, think about where they're going to live when they get out of school, and start worrying about paying off student loans. But what about the juniors? We're the ones who will be seniors in the fall, with just one year left of college after this. Where did the time go? How did our college career go by so fast? This summer will be our last summer before it will be our turn to face the realities of adulthood.
So what will we do during our last summer with some freedom? While a lot of college students enjoy their summers having fun, hanging out with friends, and going to parties, I'm one of the students who is having trouble finding a summer job. It's my last summer as a college student and I'm actually looking for work… crazy, I know. Some of us would actually prefer to make some money and manage to balance a social life. Except there's one slight problem... I'm having trouble getting hired.
Most companies are not willing to hire part-time college students who will only be around for three months. It's the same struggle I've had every summer for the past two years and it's finally the last summer I'll have to deal with this problem. Next year it will be time to apply for a real job, with an actual salary that will pay our bills and put food on the table, not just fill our gas tanks.
If you're like me, you spent your last three years of college working your butt off to build that perfect resume; getting internships, participating in extracurricular activities, joining clubs, and getting involved around campus. We’ve come a long way, but it's not quite over yet. We may only have one year left but that's no excuse to blow off senior year. Enjoy it, have fun, go out, and do what every college student lives for. Just don't forget about the finish line; ending strong and coming out on top next May when it will finally be our turn to be the graduating seniors. I have faith in all of us!
So, to my fellow juniors who will be rising seniors in just a few short months, take it all in, have some fun, study hard, and enjoy this next year while you can. Let's make the most of our senior year!
