Does feeling it constitute it as fact? Does emotion make it real?
Perspective differs from one life to the next, and that is because no two stories are the same. Experience changes perspective which alters reality.
My story, my background, my culture, my ethnicity, my passions, my memories, and my language all skew the images set before me. I see the world through a different lens than anyone else- my lens. My lens is bent and cracked by pain, mended by the adhesion of accomplishment over adversity. My lens is tinted by memories and feelings attached. My lens magnifies that which meant the most in my memories. My lens has been cleansed by tears that have revealed truth. My lens is ever-changing and never ceases to exist. It portrays and skews and reveals according to what it has already seen.
My lens retains information and feelings and then projects these feelings into each and every situation that occurs again in front of them. My lens is my reality. Your lens is yours. And since no one has the same lens, and since it is difficult to control how your lens perceives and projects, do any of us know reality?
As mentioned before, lenses can be changed; however, it is hardly an instantaneous action. Changing lenses takes a tedious process: recognition of your lens' current state, mending of any deep cracks or a complete replacement of the glass depending on the extent of the damage, a refitting of the frame to be sure your foundation is secure, and finally refocusing your actions to the new way of viewing life.
One must be careful to protect their lens while also keeping an open mind to change. The greatest dangers are either being so flexible that your lens can fall off and be swapped by anybody or being so narrow-minded that your lens never changes at all. A lens is a way to experience life and since experience changes perspective which alters reality, each of our lenses control our reality.
Does feeling it constitute it as fact? Does emotion make it real?
It is real; everything we experience, every feeling and emotion we race through is authentic and has reasoning, but this does not mean the way we see life is the ultimate reality. Always protect your values, be open to change, and be gracious to the fact that others' lenses will never be the same as yours.
