From The Girl Who Is Feeling That Summertime Sadness

"Summertime Sadness" is not only a song, it's a very real feeling.

I am so incredibly sad that summer is coming to an end. This summer has easily been one of the busiest of my 19 years, but I loved it because it was so busy. Between working two jobs, summer classes, and traveling to a few different places I feel like it flew by since school ended in May.

I am going to miss working two jobs in the fall because of a full school schedule and also because the restaurant I work at closes for the winter. Working this summer has been incredibly wonderful and I am so sad to not see my work friends during the school year.

This summer I also got to hike Mount Washington for the second time with my best friend Emma and I have so many memories from that trip that I'll have nostalgia for over the winter. That trip was easily one of the best points of my summer because I really got to disconnect from everything and everyone for a few days which does not happen often. This trip also gave me the time to appreciate nature like I have not before.

I also got to travel to Philadelphia, the Outer Banks of North Carolina, as well as Long Beach Island. I went to these places with my parents and got to see a bunch of new places that I hadn't seen before as well as see some relatives on the way home.

During the first part of this trip, I got to see so many historical things in Philadelphia that I have been wanting to see for a while. I got to go to the Liberty Bell, the Museum of the American Revolution, and also Independence Hall. My favorite of those three places was definitely the Independence Hall tour. It was so informational and it was so cool to step in the footsteps of the founding fathers of America.

Not only did Philadelphia have a great historical atmosphere but the restaurants and coffee shops were definitely some of the best places for food and coffee I've been in my life. I definitely recommend "Menagerie Coffee" for caffeine"

In the Outer Banks, I got to see some historical things as well such as the Memorial for Wilbur and Orville Wright, which was beautiful. My parents and I also drove out to Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, which is the tallest lighthouse in North America. The view from the top of the lighthouse was incredible. While in North Carolina I also got to experience the best snack food ever, hush puppies. It's kind of an equivalent to a doughboy (if you're from Rhode Island), or fried dough.

I'm also going to miss summer classes because of the amount of time I had to get schoolwork done, which is something I'm going to have to readjust to during the fall semester. My summer classes were both so interesting and I learned so much taking them.

This summer overall was wonderful and I while I'm excited about school to start up again, I'm definitely going to be sad about summer ending for a while.

I've been super busy lately with school work, studying, etc. Besides the fact that I do nothing but AP chemistry and AP economics, I constantly think of stupid questions that are almost impossible to answer. So, maybe you could answer them for me, and if not then we can both wonder what the answers to these 15 questions could be.

To My Loving Boyfriend,

  • Thank you for all that you do for me
  • Thank you for working through disagreements with me
  • Thank you for always supporting me
  • I appreciate you more than words can express
  • You have helped me grow and become a better person
  • I can't wait to see where life takes us next
  • I promise to cherish every moment with you
  • Thank you for being my best friend and confidante
  • I love you and everything you do

To start off, here's something I don't say nearly enough: thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart. You do so much for me that I can't even put into words how much I appreciate everything you do - and have done - for me over the course of our relationship so far. While every couple has their fair share of tiffs and disagreements, thank you for getting through all of them with me and making us a better couple at the other end. With any argument, we don't just throw in the towel and say we're done, but we work towards a solution that puts us in a greater place each day. Thank you for always working with me and never giving up on us.

Because no one ever really leaves.

Ah, yes, good old Hauppauge. We are that town in the dead center of Long Island that barely anyone knows how to pronounce unless they're from the town itself or live in a nearby area. Hauppauge is home to people of all kinds. We always have new families joining the community but honestly, the majority of the town is filled with people who never leave (high school alumni) and elders who have raised their kids here. Around the town, there are some just some landmarks and places that only the people of Hauppauge will ever understand the importance or even the annoyance of.
