I have three jobs, seven classes, and I love spending time with my friends and family. But some days, balancing everything can get a little tricky. This morning I woke up in my warm bed and noticed how cold and crisp the air was. I was so comfortable. I did not want to get up. The thoughts of what all I had to do this week came flooding in right after, and as much as I wanted to go back to sleep and think about it later, I knew I had to get my day started. I threw on some clothes and a ball cap and headed to my bible class here at Anderson University.
I think it is so funny when God just sorta shows up when you are half asleep in your first class of the day looking forward to your lunch break. This is the third month into school and I have gone to my bible class three times per week since it started, but today God showed up in a big way with a little reminder. My teacher told us: God Does Not Give Us More Than We Can Handle.
That's right, God doesn't give us more than we can handle. In fact, He loads our plate majority of the time so that through our circumstance or situation we will lean on Him when the going gets tough. Not only will we lean on Him, but we will learn through Him.
Let me elaborate a little on this...
God doesn't want to pile us up with papers to grade, test to study for, people to be around, funerals to attend, etc. just for the heck of it. He wants to give us every opportunity He has for us to take the situation and reflect it back to Him. He wants us to be a light at our work, or give extra love, or support to a friend. Yes, somedays being a busy person is just rough, but in the long run it only prepares us more for what He has in store. Sometimes the more you have on your plate, the more full you will be when it is time eat.
Moses, in the Bible, was chosen by God to lead God's people out of Egypt and out of their slavery. Moses had a big task at hand, but a big opportunity to lead the people to the Promise Land. I am sure at times Moses just wanted to give up, but even when he was busy, God reminded Moses of the job he gave him and why it was so important.
I am by no means telling anyone who is physically, mentally, or spiritually exhausted to keep themselves busy with a full plate every single day because we do need rest. And saying no to some things is not a bad decision, but if you are anything like me, staying busy is a part of who you are. And when I run out of fuel, I just need to fill up again.
Thankfully I have a God who refills me with the promise that I can handle whatever He wants me to do, not on my own, but through him.
