It's available to all of us but sometimes we forget this...

Feeling Anxious? Here's The Remedy

We walked beneath the flowered trellis, shoulder to shoulder. The sunlight, bright but soft, illuminated everything. It glowed softly as it soaked into my skin, enveloping my arms, legs, and torso.

Deep breath.

Myriads of different flowers hung from the trellis, begging me to hold them and take in their unique fragrance.I approached a bright red, heart-shaped flower and cupped it in my hands. In this garden, there was no need to rush. I couldn’t understand why I hadn’t thought to come here earlier.

Deep breath.

Although my plans and thoughts weighed heavily on me they were brushed away with each inhale and exhale. My companion stopped beside me. “Daughter.” His voice boomed like many rushing waters. It was deep, quenching the untamed fears hiding within me, eradicating anxiety. I turned slowly and met his intoxicating gaze. Oh, those eyes. Like blazing emeralds, set aflame by love itself. I released the flower and paid full attention.

“My Precious One, look and see”. He swept his robed arm towards the fields of flowers that lay beyond us.

“I made these for you. Each one is very special, very specifically designed for you in every challenge and season you may face.” My heart dropped a little. He knew. My gaze dropped to the cobblestone pathway beneath us. He gently lifted my chin with his finger. “My daughter. I will always provide everything you could ever need. Don’t run to broken cisterns. You will never be filled.”

“I’m so sorry Father. I have run to accomplishments instead of into Your arms. My Abba, there is no one like You.”

Those brilliant eyes flashed. “You are forgiven. Remember, my love is unconditional. It doesn’t change based on circumstances. No matter what you run to I will always be here, waiting. Until the end, I will always wait Katie.”

My cheeks started to burn. Tears fell from my face and towards the cobblestone. I closed my eyes then opened them. There was His hand, wet with my tears, waiting for the next one to drop.

“Every part of you is precious to me Katie.” This revelation released a fresh onslaught of tears.
Choked with emotion I croaked. “Please help me remember that Abba.” He smiled widely.
“Of course I will my Girl. Of course.”

This piece was written after I asked God to reveal more of Himself to me. As usual, He answered and did it very well. Of course, He pinpointed who He was amid my situation. He didn’t shove my weakness in my face. Instead, He showed me His abundant strength in comparison to my failings.

May we remember who He is whenever we try running to other comforts instead of Him. May we remember that He will never hesitate to take us back in His loving arms. Because that’s the God He is <3

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
