Everyone has their “thing” that they are passionate about. Unfortunately, there are times where the creativity that fuels your love for this “thing” seems lost and you feel stuck. This feeling of stagnation creates frustration because isn’t your “thing” supposed to be what you are good at, after all? While it sometimes seems impossible to overcome a roadblock such as this, it’s even more important to stay optimistic and maybe even listen to all of those cheesy quotes you read on Tumblr every once in awhile. Give things time, and inspiration and creativity will always find their way back to you.
The waiting game is always a tedious one. But know, it’s a crucial step. Musicians can’t always come up with the right chords to perfect their song. Dancers don’t always feel the motivation to try their hardest. Authors can have trouble putting into words a story that they see so clearly in their minds. Every kind of person experiences times when they feel like their “thing” isn’t working out how it is supposed to. Take a deep breath and look around. You aren’t alone.
These times can make you question your interest in something in the first place. When you reach this place, remember why it is you love your “thing.” Is it the way it lets you express yourself? Is it a release from reality? Is it the way it brings a smile to your face when you get something just right? Reflect on all of the things that you have either done, or been led to because of it. Appreciate all of the successes, even the small ones. Realize your own growth, and how far you have come from when you first started. Mountains have their valleys, just like they have their highest peaks.
So, keep going. Don’t stop trying and working hard. Don’t give up. Your “thing” is your thing and you are going to do something amazing with it as long as you keep at it. You aren’t going to feel stuck forever. Ask anyone, they’ll tell you that they’ve gotten out of their rut too.
