Hello friends.

I am not really sure why, but I have the image of a sailboat on my heart today. When I was at Kanakuk Kamps, I taught sail class consistently. I enjoyed that class because it was challenging. You never knew when the waves were going to come, if the wind was randomly going to gust in the other direction, or if you are going to tip over. It is a constant battle of problem solving. I grew to love sailing more and more.

Last night, I discovered that a sailboat symbolizes the breath of the Holy Spirit. A sailboat is propelled by wind. The wind catches the sail and if steered correctly, you are propelled quickly. I think that the Talbot School of Theology says it best:

"Accordingly, the Spirit of God is omnipresent and invisible, making His presence known by the effects of His action. Just as we know that the wind is present when the boat’s sail is full, when the kite soars upward, and when the windmill is turning, we know that the Holy Spirit is active when we see typical effects of His works: people believe in Jesus, they live in closer unity of mutuality and interdependence of church life, and lives are changed into closer conformity to Jesus Christ" (http://www.thegoodbookblog.com/2015/nov/18/metapho...).

Sometimes we do not see the Lord's presence. We are in the middle of the water and remain idle. We are unaware of the fact that if we pointed our tiller in the other direction or if we pulled the halyard a little tighter that would fix the problem. We have to be willing to make adjustments. We are unaware that the Holy Spirit is there through it all. He is present through each and every step that we take. We just have to learn to recognize that He is there even if do not feel the gust.

We have to learn how to adjust our sail. When we are trying to get across a body of water, we are not just going to go in a straight line. The waves are going to come and known you off course and you are going to have to tack all of the way across. You are in a constant state of adjusting your sail based on your current circumstances.

Be aware the Holy Spirit, be aware of Him him moving in your life, and be aware of the effects of His works in your life.

"Sometimes life, most times I, feel just like a sailboat." -Ben Rector

Bob's Burgers
Adult Swim

Bob's Burgers is arguably one of the best and most well-written shows on tv today. That, and it's just plain hilarious. From Louise's crazy antics to Tina's deadpan self-confidence, whether they are planning ways to take over school or craft better burgers, the Belchers know how to have fun. They may not be anywhere close to organized or put together, but they do offer up some wise words once and awhile.

We're in college, none of us actually have anything together. In fact, not having anything together is one of our biggest stressors. However, there's a few little things that we do ever so often that actually make us feel like we have our lives together.

1. Making yourself dinner

And no this does not include ramen or Annie's Mac & Cheese. Making a decent meal for yourself is one of the most adult things you can do living on campus. And the food is much better than it would be at the dining hall.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.
