The Lions just released their new uniforms that they will be wearing for years to come early last week. They have gotten some mixed reactions from fans this past week and now it's my turn to give my thoughts on them. For those that don't know the uniforms have kept the traditional colors Honolulu Blue and Silver. Black is a color that has been added to the Lions uniforms back in the early 2000s but now it has been taken out. In my opinion, this is a great idea. The Lions never had any black in their uniform in history until recently and I think going back to the traditional look is a nod to the lions of the past. When the Lions used to be a team to be reckoned with year after year way back in the mid 20th century they only wore the colors Honolulu Blue and Silver and to go back to this shows the team is pushing to get back to this type of play. The color black was the only real thing that was taken away from the uniform and the main differences between this new uniform and the old are the key additions added to it.
The additions to the uniform are the word Lions on the right shoulder pad within the traditional stripes on the sleeves and then the addition of the initials WCF in remembrance of the late owner William Clay Ford. If you watch the Lions every weekend like I do you would remember that a couple years ago the Lions wore a patch on the front of their jerseys over their heart with the same initials. So now the initials will be forever embodied with the Lions every Sunday when they put on these uniforms. I think both of these additions are great and they give the uniform a little more pop. It's a more modern look which I think is a great idea. It shows a new beginning while still holding true to its past.
In my opinion, these uniforms are now some of the best in the league. Just like the team that we have in place now. I can't wait for the opening weekend and to see these uniforms being worn by the newest Lions team. It should give the players, even more, confidence going into this season. These new uniforms leave behind all the past failures from teams before them and it gives them a chance to write a new chapter in Lions history. Also with the announcement of the 100 million dollars put into new renevations for Ford Field this next year for the Lions is going to be one to remember. I for one know I am going to be at, at least one game this next fall maybe more to get the full experience of the newly renovated stadium and also to see these new uniforms up close and in aciton.
