For those of you who feel that creative bug, you might find that you don't always have time to fulfill those needs on a busy schedule. With exam season upon us, we have to remember to make some time for ourselves and to let our creative minds run wild every once in a while.
1. Journaling
When inspiration strikes and you only have a couple of minutes on the go, it's helpful to carry a journal with you. You can doodle, write a poem, or just simply make observations about your surroundings or whatever is going on in that brain of yours. It's the perfect outlet to let your imagination run completely wild.
A pencil and some paper can go a long way when you feel like you're in a creative drought.
2. Coloring
Yes, coloring. By now we all know that adult coloring is definitely the thing, and let me just say, I love it. Finding an artsy coloring book or even a blank piece of paper and taking fifteen minutes to color is something that you will definitely thank yourself for. It not only allows you to do something that allows you to flex your creative muscle but to relax and destress in this crazy world.
Color your hearts out people!
3. iPhone Photography
No, it Is NOT basic to stop every once in a while and take a picture of the sunset or a flower. If it's something that you enjoy, why not? It only takes a few minutes to stop and appreciate your surroundings when the opportunity and impulse arises. Go crazy and capture the moment through your unique lens.
Bonus: It might be insta worthy later on.
4. Watch A Movie
Sometimes you just have to treat yourself, get comfy, get some snacks, and watch the gosh darn movie. Watching a movie can inspire the filmmaker in you to wake up and start imagining your own ideas and let the creative juices flow. Schedule it into your week if you know that it's going to be really busy. You'll be really glad you gave yourself a break to unwind.
Don't act like you don't have a movie sitting in your Netflix watch-list.
5. Social Media
The smartphone you're probably holding in front you right now contains a big world for you to easily express yourself within. You can use apps such as VSCO, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, and Pinterest as your little creative outlets on the go. Within these, the possibilities are limitless. If you have a lightbulb moment or you think of something clever, it's easy enough to tweet it out for the world to see. You can quickly share a photo or an idea on your way to class.
Never underestimate the power of an Instagram story.
6. Jammin' On Your Planner
Leslie Knope was really onto something when she mentioned jammin' on her planner. Keeping a planner or something similar is a great way to combine organization and creativity. Making your planner not only a place for your schedule and to-do list, but also for stickers, cursive, washi tape, and fancy lettering, gives you a perfect excuse to have fun and be creative while feeling like you are still being productive and using your time wisely.
Although being creative is never a waste of time, just saying.
7. Singing In The Shower
If you feel like your creativity is bottled up and it needs to come out, take a shower. A shower is the perfect time to sing your heart out and allow yourself to let go of some built up stress. So go ahead and belt out the lyrics to your favorite song, even if it's a little off key.
Just pretend no one can hear you, not that your rendition of "My Girl" isn't totally amazing.
