Since March is almost over and done with, I wanted to give a little list of some of the best music that’s come out this month. And there’s been a lot! Kendrick Lamar released his Black Panther soundtrack, Janelle Monae dropped a few new singles (and spilled her album release date!!) and Frank Ocean gave us a beautiful cover of Moon River.
1. Make Luv - Brent Faiyaz
This is a nice, super chill song from Brent. It’s nothing too fancy, but that’s what makes it a good listen; it’s the kind of song you listen to at the end of a long day.
2. Computer Luv - Rayvn Lenae ft. Steve Lacy
Everything Steve Lacy touches turns to gold, and that’s proven with this song. It’s a duet taken from Lenae’s new EP, which is also worth a listen.
3. Moon River - Frank Ocean
I LOVE THIS SONG, OK? I’m not even talking about the Frank version — as a kid, I loved Breakfast at Tiffany’s (and Audrey Hepburn) and this song was such a moment. Frank Ocean’s version is a lovely — and creative — rendition of an old favorite.
4. Make Me Feel - Janelle Monae
I have a lot of lovey-dovey feelings about this song. You can 10000% tell that Monae is one of Prince’s proteges — this song has his impact written all over it. Also, there’s a 99.9999% chance that this song (and the accompanying music video) is Monae’s way of coming out.
5. Django Jane - Janelle Monae
Another instant bop, this time with Monae rapping about her identity, masculinity, her come-up and female empowerment.
6. Cocky - A$AP Rocky ft. Gucci Mane, 21 Savage and London On Da Track
A$AP’S BACK! No, but seriously, it’s been a while since Rocky dropped anything that wasn’t part of an A$AP Mob project, or a feature on someone else’s song. It’s a good song, one nicely balanced by the features from Gucci and 21 Savage.
7. Stone Woman - Charlotte Day Wilson
Wilson’s got a lovely voice, and this is a lovely song.
8. Love Lies - Khalid & Normani Kordei
This is soo good, and it’s nice to finally hear Normani sing without the rest of Fifth Harmony.
9. The Ways - Khalid ft. Swae Lee
This song is very sweet, and is part of the amazing Kendrick Lamar selected Black Panther soundtrack. It’s really cute, ok?
10. I Am - Jorja Smith
Another miracle from the Black Panther soundtrack, featuring the work of Jorja Smith, who’s always a pleasant song. This is...you guessed it, a bop
It’s been a good month.
