February Top 5 Anticipated Books

February brought book nerds amazing books to obsess over. I was anxious for this month's book releases to hit the bookstores. Although there were many amazing books coming out this month, only five books really grabbed my attention.

1. King's Cageby Victoria Aveyard (February 7th)

King’s Cage is number one on my list because I am heavily invested in this series, it is the third book in the Red Queen series.

“In this breathless third installment to Victoria Aveyard’s bestselling Red Queen series, allegiances are tested on every side. And when the Lightning Girl's spark is gone, who will light the way for the rebellion?”

2. The Hate U Giveby Angie Thomas (February 28th)

I am so excited to get my hands on a copy of The Hate U Give because it is one of the rare books that is about black people in the Young Adult genre. Most of the time Young Adult books that involve black people are categorized under Urban Fiction and not Young Adult. The Hate U Giveis inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement and is about a young girl dealing with racism and police brutality.

3. The Valiantby Lesley Livingston (February 14th)

What drew me to this book is the amazing book cover. You see this bad ass girl in a colosseum with her armor on and she has this don't mess with me look about her. The Valiant is about a girl named Fallon who needs to fight to earn her place in her father’s war band. But things don't go as planned, she is forced to train with female gladiators and has to fight for her life. I feel like this book is going to be awesome and Fallon is going to be a badass chick.

4.American Street by Ibi Zoboi (February 14th)

I first heard about American Street when it was on a list of books with a realistic magic plot. I am a big fan of fantasy books and the more real it seems the better. It also has voodoo in it. I hardly read books about voodoo so I'm excited to try something new.

5. The Beast is an Animal by Peternelle van Arsdale (February 28th)

The Beast Is an Animal is a full blown action packed fantasy book. It’s about a girl named Alys who's trying to protect her village from soul eaters. She has a power that no one can know about or she will be shunned by her village. I really want to read this book because like I said earlier I am a very big fantasy reader and I never heard a book like this before.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
