Fearing The Inevitable

There is no escaping change.

Fearing The Inevitable

Change is wonderful and all around us. Change is the new life born into this world 20 seconds ago. Change is the acceptance letter sitting on your counter or the random boy who sat down next to you at that party. Change is the sound of the final bell at the end of the day and the plane ticket you just purchased. Change is wonderful and should be embraced.

One of the true tragedies life presents is that we cannot plan everything. Unexpected events come about, creating challenging situations that can be difficult for many to overcome. We adapt ourselves to plans. We wish and pray for things to go our way and to hopefully stay as we expect they will. However, change happens. It’s an unavoidable process our lives undergo. And for that reason, we can’t be afraid of it.

I get it—the unknown is terrifying. And essentially, that’s what change is, right? Change offers up unpredictability, something everyone fears at least a little bit. But change is inevitable, and to be honest, it is necessary for progression in our lives.

Think about it: Where would you be today without change? Imagine all of the different changes that happen in one single lifetime. Without differences, transformations, and modifications, we would lead boring lives. Everything would be the same: bland, tasteless, mild. There would be no adventures, no discoveries, no inventions. Change is the drive within forcing us to go out into the world to be something new.

Change has a bad reputation. But think of it this way: It makes life more interesting. Every year is different thanks to the differences that come about in the world and our own personal lives. Change lets us know that bad times won’t last forever. We’ve all had low points, and we’ve all had high points. Good times, bad times—whatever they may be, we have them because of change. That is something worth accepting.

Whether we like it or not, we need change. It allows us to move on and forward with our lives. While specific situations are difficult to face and overcome, they will always be present in our lives. There is no avoiding change, so to deal with this inescapable fear we have, it is vital to focus on the positive.

Stop living your life being afraid of the unknown. Embrace change and all that it has to offer. Make the most of what’s to come your way. Most of the time, change brings about the greatest things in our lives.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
