For the longest time many thought it was a joke and we all laughed about it. We said there is no way in hell America would ever vote for such a hateful, racist, bigoted, sexist, Islamophobic, and xenophobic person. There was just no way. Right? Wrong!! November 9th, 2016 Donald Trump was elected as president. With that news a lot of people's lives shattered. Families and friends all over America went straight into mourning. America was crying because the impossible became possible. The joke became a reality. The truth that America picked the one person who spread hate was sickening. One person who took America back decades upon decades. This has me fearing for my life and so many other people's lives.
1. I am scared for my Muslim sisters who wear the hijab!
These women are visibly Muslim and that is something that is going to be targeted for whatever reason. Muslim women will be thrown down and forced to fight for their right to wear the hijab. The right that was given to them by the 2nd Amendment. Being a hijabi myself I am fearful for my own life. I am truly afraid of what that truly entails for me and so many of these women who faithfully follow their religion.
2. I am scared for my gay, bisexual, transexual, and overall the LGBT community!
This community has been finally given the right to marry each other and now I am worried there is a chance that is going to be taken back. Why is this even okay? No taksies backsies damnit, we learned that as kids.
3. I am afraid about what this means for America!
America has overcome so much adversity and calamities and we are a great country for it, but we always make it through. So to see this is so devastating. What must other countries be thinking about us right now? The so called progressive country is definitely regressive now. Where do we go from here?
4. I am scared for black people!
Need I say more?
5. I am scared for women!
We have elected a man who says sexually assaulting a woman is simply "locker talk." Are you kidding me? We elected him!! WE elected him. Let that sink in.
6. I am truly fearful for anyone who is not white, straight and male!
There you have it. I am scared for anyone who is remotely different.
With all that being said and with the fear eating me alive I still refuse to lose hope. I will not let a hateful man change the person I am to the core. Minority groups have overcome so many trials and tribulations and have always come out stronger on the other side. America will get through this and they will be stronger for it, but it will take time. And remember that all good things take time.
