"Everything around you that you call life was made up by people who were no smarter than you and you can change it, you can influence it, you can build your own things that people can use." - Steve Jobs
This is the kind of mindset that you should go into college with. The kind of mindset that should allow you to approach your college without passing out from the anxiety you've experienced all of summer.
We've all heard the stories about how college workload is intense and almost impossible to handle, about the ruthless professors that don't know how to teach. If you're worried about that just remember that “every year, many, many stupid people graduate from college. And if they can do it, so can you,”(John Green). It's all about the amount of effort you're willing to put it.
College and high school are incredibly different. Down to the way you're graded, the amount of responsibility you have over your life, and even the mount of free time you have. Your professor care less about keeping you on track with assignments, and have assumed you can do everything on your own. They treat you more like adults. It's definitely a new emerging part of life for many people, and its good to enjoy that, but lets not forget that we're there to graduate. College is going to be an amazing experience, and I'm not afraid to start it. I went to a charter school for five years. I repeated a year due to laziness and procrastination, but now that college is approaching, I'm more ready than ever.
Some of you may be moving away for college, others staying at home This is what we spent all those years in High School for. We have to take advantage of this opportunity and make the best of it. We'll make life-long friends, and connections. We'll grow as individuals with the people we spend the next four years with. There's guaranteed to be a large amount of clubs and activities on campus for you to make friends. You just have to have the courage to want to make conversations. College is an entirely different environment than college. You'll find people you like and people you don't like. It happens. What matters is that you get your face out there. Whether it be voicing your ideals through some platform like student government or a simply small club discussing your interests.
Even if you don't like your college, you always have the option to transfer. There are over 4,000 colleges in the United States. There's bound to be one you like.
One thing is for sure; I've never been more ready to start school in my life.
