Fear Not

Our hope is in Christ, so we have nothing to fear.

We are all aware of the election that occurred last week. Many people were upset and rioting over the newest president elected into office. People are mad, scared and fearful of what will happen to our country. This is not surprising because as humans, we do not like change. But sadly, change is inevitable. When the votes were coming in, people are becoming more and more fearful as to what would happen next. Social media was going crazy with people posting hateful comments towards those who voted republican verses democratic. It is saddening to see our country fighting with each other over something like this.

Whether the Republican party or Democratic party won, somebody would have been upset over the results. But rather than being upset and fearful, we have to turn our hope to what we know will never fail us: Christ. Everything in this world will fail us eventually whether it’s our cars, jobs, relationships or anything. We, as humans, are not perfect, and the only that is perfect is Christ.

When we get scared or worried about something, our defense is to turn that fear into something else and to shield it. Most often this fear comes out as anger as we lash out at others around us. We are fearful for our country in the upcoming years, but we cannot retaliate evil for evil. It says in the Bible that we have to love each other as our brothers and sisters. It doesn’t matter who voted for which candidate, because the only thing that will not fail us is Christ.

But sadly, we cannot hold the same standards to people that do not believe in Christ. Instead, we have to know that they do not understand the love of Christ and how a person can take evil comments and still love their enemies. We have to be a light to those around us and embrace our neighbors for who they are, especially when we are all so fearful. People react out of fear because it’s an easy way for us to gain control over a situation. As a defense mechanism, we use fear and try to control one another.

We, as Christians, are not supposed to give into fear. Fear has the ability to control our lives and make us turn away from God. But as Christians, we believe that God is our hope. We put our hope in God and know that he sent his only son to die for us so we would not have to fear. But even Christians face fear, and rather than throwing it against one another, we have to give it to God and trust him to handle it. If we let fear take over our lives, it will take over our joy and happiness. We will fear everything around us and will constantly be fighting a never ending battle.

Christ said to love God with our whole selves and to love our neighbors as we love ourselves. We are the next generation, and it is up to us to change the world around us. If we let fear drive us, then we will run from all change. In order to make American great again, we have to put our hope in God and know that He is all powerful. He can change any person’s heart and mind so we have to pray and ask him to guide us. We have to stand together as one nation under Him and pray for our leaders and the change that is to come.

Sorority
Rebekah Lee

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
