It Takes Fear To Have Courage

Stay afraid, but do it anyway.

It Takes Fear To Have Courage

Fear is an interesting concept. It has prevented me from trying new adventures & challenges. I quite often choose the easy road and it has provided me with a feeling of comfort. The decisions I made led me to the life that I currently have right now.

But, I have been coming across many quotes from celebrities that all say something along the lines of "being afraid is what keeps me going." It hasn't really left my mind lately. I want to remember each of these quotes and try to live by them. I thought it would be a good idea to share them with you all as well!

1. "It's good to be scared. It means you still have something to lose."

Grey's Anatomy has been on for over ten years. Richard passes this quote along, and then the one and only Meredith Grey repeats it later when talking to the wonderful McDreamy. When speaking to him, she says that she doesn't want him to date anyone other than her. She says that she is scared, but she knows that she does not want to lose him. I encourage myself and others to remember that there is always something to appreciate each and every day of our life. Go tell the people you love that you love them and say it loud!

2. "I'm scared all the time. You have to have fear in order to have courage."

I found this quote on Pinterest one day and instantly clicked the repin button. It's wonderful, isn't' it? There a lot of situations I find myself in that make me terribly nervous.I will admit that I have avoided events because I scare myself too much beforehand. However, I have continuously improved over the last few years. I hope to continue going to events this summer and next year, even if they scare me. I can't let my fear hold me back from enjoying my life anymore.

3. "Hiding from your fear doesn't make your fear go away."

Nothing gets better when you just run away from your problems. Sometimes, I think the problems I go through in my life will simply go away when I wait it out. However, I know that I should handle it before something else happens if I truly want them to go away. I know that it will never get better by just ignoring it. I have to face my problems head on.

4. "Be afraid of the calmest person in the room."

It is easy to hide your fears, but it sure is nice when other people around you express that they are feeling the same way as you are. But, what about the people who are never afraid? Even if they are, they just do a good job of pushing their fears aside when they are in a room with others. You may ask yourself, "Why is this person so calm?" Remember what I said before about having something to lose? This quote reminds me that you should be afraid of people who have nothing to lose. They don't let things get in the way from what they really want in the end.

Above all, I think a little fear is good. It teaches you to be thankful for what you have in life and to hold onto your memories of peace and comfort. I am thankful for everything that has happened to me, and I hope we all live our lives by staying true to ourselves and acknowledging our fears.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
