To My Favorite High School Teacher,

Hey! I miss seeing you every day now that I'm in college. You really knew how to put a smile on my face and cheer me up even on some of my lowest days. I just wanted to take this time to thank you for some of the things that I appreciate the most about you.

Thank you for always asking if I was okay. I'm not sure if you could just tell by the look on my face but you always seemed to know when something was up. On my lower days, I knew that you would try your hardest to make me smile. You never failed to notice when I was low.

Thank you for teaching the material in the best way you could. Let's be real...some of the stuff you had to teach was really boring. You knew that...you even would talk about how boing it is. Somehow you made learning about something so boring really fun. I don't think I would have retained the information as well (or at all) if you had not taught it the way you did. Thank you for making it much more fun than it actually was.

Thank you for opening up to your students. I really loved when you would tell us stories about you. It made me feel like I was not as much below you, but more of an equal to you. I also really loved when you told us stories because it showed us that you cared. It showed us that just because you are above us doesn't mean that you don't love us any less or that you look down on us. Plus, your stories were always really funny...and it took away from learning some of that boring material.

Thank you for caring about us so much. I know I just talked about how you would always ask us if we were okay...but it is so much more than that. You were always sitting with us at lunch and just talking to us. You would share your food with us, tell us stories, and so many other wonderful things. I remember after taking a really boring test, you brought in donuts for all of us as a "sorry for making you take that awful test" type of thing. I remember another time when I was walking to class and I looked as tired as ever and you pulled me into your classroom, gave me money and said, "go get some coffee please. It looks like you need it." Little things like that meant so much more than you'll ever know.

You are the best teacher I've ever had. I really appreciate that you keep in contact with me now that I have graduated. I really miss you. Thank you for being not only a wonderful teacher, but for being a role model, a support system, a mother, and a best friend. I love you so much and I hope I can see you soon.

We don't buy into these... just like how we don't buy our friends.

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
