What Your Favorite Christmas Song Says About You

It's Christmas time and there's no better time to ring in this joyful time of year than with Christmas music. Like every song, we love to scrutinize and analyze the meaning behind our favorite seasonal standards, but no one begs to ask the question, "What do they say about us?" It's time to find out if you're more like a drummer boy or The Grinch.

Song: “We Need a Little Christmas”

You're Christmas AF. As soon as Thanksgiving is over, you are already decked out in your snowflake PJ’s and Santa Claus hat.

Song: “White Christmas”

You’re from California and all you want is a white, snowy Christmas. And it makes you think of all of the snowball fights you'll have with your BFFs.

Song: “Santa Baby”

Break out the mistletoe because all you want for Christmas is some booty. Even if he has a snowy white beard and a belly that shakes like a bowl full of jelly. Hey, you’re flexible.

Song: “Let it Snow! Let it Snow! Let it Snow!”

You’re so overwhelmed by finals and being stuck in school that winter break is so close, you can taste it. You need a snowstorm to delay your finals and give you an excuse to blow off your work and get to be a little kid again and not a stressed out adult.

Song: “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)”

You love Michael Buble and have had his Christmas album on repeat throughout the entire month of December.

Song: “Blue Christmas”

You’re a fan of Elvis and booze and despite the holidays being a time to think of how everyone comes together, you think of people who are alone, which makes you start to feel alone. Cheer up, buttercup.

Song: “Baby, It’s Cold Outside”

You’ve been watching 'Love Actually' and 'The Holiday' far too many times and now all you want for Christmas is Jude Law or Keira Knightley to show up at your doorstep, and then whisk you away in the snow and sing you this romantic, but also verging on creeping duet. One can dream.

Song: “All I Want for Christmas is You”

When it comes to Christmas, you’re all about going back to basics. Mariah Carey’s Christmas album, hot chocolate, snow angels, and peppermint everything, you’re all about sticking to traditions.

Song: “Little Drummer Boy”

You are independent and relate to that little drummer boy, marching your beat and delivering your song in hopes of delighting others. One could say you march to the beat of your own drummer (I had to go there, I’m sorry.)

Song: “Last Christmas”

You’re known for getting quite nostalgic, remembering memories both good and bad. You tend to have trouble letting go of things you may have done or have happened to you this year, especially with ones you care about. During this time of year, you wish you could go back in time to salvage memories and make them better.

Song: “River”

You’ve hit the eggnog one too many times. You’re sad and philosophically making up metaphors to justify for your sadness. The only one who understands you is Emma Thompson’s character, Karen, from 'Love Actually'. Homegirl’s the only one who understands the blues of Joni Mitchell and that just because it’s Christmas, doesn’t mean everything’s all snowflakes and presents.

Rock around that Christmas tree.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
