As I was walking back to my dorm one late afternoon, I bumped into one of my friends that I haven't seen in a while. After talking, she stopped and pointed out the beautiful sunset saying that I should write about it. So, here I am, writing about my favorite time of the day: sunset.
For as long as I can remember, I've always loved watching the sunset and all the beautiful colors that come with it as it starts to become darker. Something that I like about sunsets is that they are consistently beautiful, I have never seen an ugly sunset. Knowing that no matter what happens during the day, whether it's good or bad, that at the end of all of it will be a beautiful sunset is comforting to me. Seeing a mix of oranges, reds, purples, pinks, and yellows in the sky makes me just sit and stare for a moment and gives me a chance to reflect on my day.
One of the best parts about sunsets is that you can see them anywhere in the world and they still hold that sense of beauty and wonder. I've seen sunsets all around the country and the world over the past 21 years and they just get better with each location. During the school year, I've seen my fair share of some sweet sunsets, whether it be while coming back from practice or class or from my room in Inty. But some of my favorite sunsets have been when I've been home for the summer break. This may be totally bias but one of my favorite sunset locations is at Bayport Beach, back home on Long Island. After a long day I like to drive or run down to the beach a little before sunset and either sit in my car or on a bench on the pier, and just relax and wait for the sun to set. Yes, I may be guilty of getting a few Instagram pictures in there, but it's just a way to capture that beauty and share it with people.
Sunsets are special because whether you're by yourself or with some friends, you still can appreciate the beauty of it. Next time the sun sets, take a minute and just watch as the sun goes down after a long day and forget anything that was bothering you, even if it is just for a few moments. We don't know how many sunsets we are going to have the opportunity to view during our lives, so make the ones that you see count.
