My Favorite Spots In Chapel Hill

I mean, if I had to pick....

My Favorite Spots In Chapel Hill

If you go to school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, or even if you've just visited a time or two, then you already know it is beautiful. But it's not just the traditional landmarks like the Old Well or the Bell Tower that make this campus amazing. Here are seven of my favorite places to enjoy the marvels of Chapel Hill.

1. McCorkle Place

I was in this very place when I decided to transfer to UNC-Chapel Hill. Although you're likely to find more people sitting in the middle of its neighbor to the south, Polk Place, I personally prefer McCorkle. The grass is more lush here, it's quieter, and it's a great place to watch and laugh at some crazy squirrels. The huge trees scattered around this quad also act as a great back rest and offer shade during hot days.

2. Graham Memorial

Located within McCorkle Place is another one of my favorite Chapel Hill locations, Graham Memorial. From the outside, this may look like just another academic building. But if you haven't yet, I encourage you to take a step inside. You may discover that you've found your new study spot and never have to go to the UL again.

3. Arboretum

This one's kind of a classic, but I couldn't not put it on the list. If you're like me and hate being cooped up inside and prefer to study outdoors, head to the arboretum. Sick of studying? Pack a lunch and a blanket and meet some friends in the arboretum for a relaxing study break.

4. Battle Branch Trail

The first time I discovered Battle Branch Trail was by accident, when I got lost while on a run. Afterwards, though, I often added it as part of my running route. Although hilly and rocky in some areas, it is a good place to get away from the bustle of campus and enjoy the outdoors. Not a runner? Battle Branch Trail is perfect for a leisurely hike with a friend as well. And it's so close to campus that you don't even have to drive to get there.

5. Kenan Stadium

Most of us have been to Kenan Stadium on game day, but have you ever gone when it's empty? Whether you want to run stadiums (good luck if you do), or you're just looking for a nice quiet place to study without entering the dreadful library, Kenan Stadium is an awesome place to visit that not enough students take advantage of.

6. Forest Theatre

Do you live closer to Franklin Street and don't feel like trekking all the way to the stadium? The Forest Theatre is another peaceful place to study outdoors. It can get buggy, though, so beware and maybe bring a blanket! The theatre also usually has cool events going on, so you can check those out as well.

7. Rooftops

There's no better way to appreciate the beauty of Chapel Hill than from a rooftop where you can see it all. Go up to the roof of Shortbread, Warehouse, or really any other somewhat tall building, and you will not be disappointed by the view. Especially if it's during sunset.

Of course, these aren't the only beautiful places in Chapel Hill. The list could go on and on. But these are a few of my favorite, and if you haven't checked them out yet, I hope you do soon!

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?

I've been super busy lately with school work, studying, etc. Besides the fact that I do nothing but AP chemistry and AP economics, I constantly think of stupid questions that are almost impossible to answer. So, maybe you could answer them for me, and if not then we can both wonder what the answers to these 15 questions could be.
