It's almost that time of year again! I'm starting to see the creepy decorations and costumes in store windows. Halloween has always been an exciting and fun holiday for me. I absolutely love dressing up in costumes, putting on makeup, and eating obscene amounts of candy. I'm not even a sweets person, but somehow during this season it just takes better. Besides dressing up one of my favorite things to do is watch lots of creepy movies. I have some new favorites, and some that I've kind of made a tradition to watch. Here's some of my recommended flicks.

1. The Nightmare Before Christmas

So I have to say I'm a huge Tim Burton fan. He somehow takes such creepy, ghoulish, gross concepts and turns them into this magic figurine world and it's so cool you'd actually go there. This movie has such catchy songs and memorable characters, it's easy for it to become a classic pick.

2. Coraline

In another whimsical Tim Burton world, Coraline takes you to the kids' paradise of everything being perfectly made for you. But really you discover there's an evil presence that wants you to stay there forever. It's a good mostly kid friendly option with a sweet mixture of creative and creepy.

3. Edward Scissorhands

This movie is actually also one of my favorite movies to watch around Christmas time, believe it or not. Edward is just a lonely creation by a mad scientist who wants to learn how to be human. Things change when he is taken in by a compassionate makeup saleswoman and her family. This one always has me tear up a bit.

4. Halloween Movie Series

Halloween is like a tradition in my family. Even though I've seen them countless times, there's something about this series that keeps me fascinated. I guess I'm just very interested in pure sociopaths.

5. Haunting In Connecticut

This movie has all the essentials to be a good scary movie. A good family with a crisis going on, an old haunted house that belonged to a mortician who also practiced necromancy, and demons. If this movie doesn't at least slightly creepy you out I'll tell you one more thing... It's based on a true story!!!

6. The Sixth Sense

The Sixth Sense is a very iconic movie. It follows young Cole who has an ability to see those who've died, but have yet to pass on from unfinished business. How can Cole ever feel safe? He'll have to trust his new psychiatrist with his secret and hope they can figure out a way to help him help them.

7. Orphan

If you haven't seen Orphan, you're in for a surprise. This isn't just your run of the mill creepy movie. Esther has a secret you'd never expect a little orphan girl to have. She isn't nearly as innocent as she seems.

8. Silence of the Lambs

Silence of the Lambs is a good pick for anyone interested in law, crime, and mystery. It follows a clever new FBI agent in training who's trying to solve the case of Buffalo Bill, a serial killer who is killing woman and for some unknown reason taking pieces of their skin. It also has Hannibal Lecter, the extremely creepy yet charmingly polite serial killer who takes a liking to her.

9. Carrie

I've always been very empathetic of Carrie. She's a lonely school outcast who only gets any type of attention from her overbearing freakishly religious mother who spends most of their interactions telling her how sinful she is. She is humiliated after freaking out that she was bleeding to death because she didn't know what a period is. Things change when Carrie is asked by a dreamy senior to the prom. Everything is like a Cinderella story until an awful prank...

10. Children of the Corn

If you haven't seen Children of the Corn, you haven't experienced one of Stephen King's most well known horror films. I promise you won't have horrible nightmares, but you'll never look at little farm kids the same way again.

These are just some of the creepy movies I can watch again and again. Tell me some of yours! I'm always looking for new good and skin crawling movie experiences!

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
