Christmas is my FAVORITE time of the year. Everything about it makes me so happy. The lights, the cheerfulness that everyone exhibits, the holidays really are the most wonderful time of the year. What makes Christmas time so magical for me, is the traditions that my family has adopted over the years. I look forward to them every year.
Christmas Eve at the grandparents
We spend EVERY Christmas Eve with my grandparents, my aunt, and uncle and my cousin, Logan. Without meaning to, each year we all sit in the same spots. My dad sits in the corner of the couch, my mom on the other corner, my grandpa in the recliner, my grandma in a chair next to my cousin and me on the floor. It would be off if someone did not sit in their correct seat. So, it's kind of like we have assigned seating. We have Christmas dinner and then we open presents. My grandmother makes up this game for my cousin and me to find our "big gift." It is a series of clues that are all over the house and in order to receive our present, we have to find the clues on our own (my grandpa always cheats). I look forward to the game most of all. My grandma gets more and more creative each year.
Christmas day
Christmas day is a magical, whirlwind of emotions. You wake up MUCH earlier than any other day of the year. Even as a college student I go and wake my parents up before I do anything else. As a kid, I was NEVER allowed in the living room without my parents up, and my mom always videoed my reaction to what Santa brought me. I cherish those videos. We, then, go to my great aunt and uncles for Christmas brunch. Honestly, Christmas wouldn't be complete without eggs goldenrod and corn chip beef (whatever that is, I've never tried it).
Santa!!
When I was a kid, well I'm still a kid, but, when I was a little kid, I was allowed to ask Santa for three gifts. Only three, no more. Why is that? It all started with my mom and uncle. We are allowed to ask for three gifts because Jesus got three gifts from the wise men on his birthday. Gold, frankincense, and myrrh. If it was enough for our Lord and Savior, then it is much more than anyone could ever need.
Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year. Traditions are just an added bonus to look forward too. However, make a point to remember the reason we celebrate Christmas. It is NOT about the presents and food, but about the ultimate gift the Lord Jesus gave us. The gift of eternal life in Heaven with Him.
