My dog is so much more than a dog to me. He is the equivalent to an actual human being. Dogs are one of the most selfless animals that you could come in contact with and I believe that is why they make great companions. They are always by your side regardless of how many times you yelled at them, got annoyed with them, or even told them to move out your way while watching something on television. They are there when you need someone to vent to and do not really care for a response. When your world comes crashing down and you want to burst out into tears, dogs are right there beside you expressing their concern. My friend’s dog brings her his favorite toy in anticipation of making her mood better.
Dogs really do care about their owner more than they care about themselves. A year ago my dog was having some trouble with his leg, which made it hard for him to get up and down the steps. This ultimately resulted in him staying downstairs as opposed to maneuvering throughout the day. However, after my knee surgery I could not go up and down the steps for about a week. My dog made he sure he came upstairs every night to sleep with me. I would make sure whoever left last cracked the door for him to come in and sleep right next to my bed. He selflessly decided that my pain was greater than his and I needed someone there with me. The first night I did not think much of it but after the second and third, I knew exactly what he was doing. The fact that my dog did that unselfish act brought tears to my eyes and I began to love him more than I ever did before.
Dogs light up every time you walk through the door regardless of the day, or how long you have been absent from their presence. They just want to love and be loved nothing else, which is truly uplifting. At the end of the day dogs just want their owner to be happy and to have occasional playtime.
