Black has always been my favorite color. Maybe I was a little scared to admit it at first since I thought people only wore black to funerals, but as my horizons have opened up and I realized that black was the color of boss a$ babes, I started to admit it loud and proud.
Why is black the greatest color? Let me count the ways.
1. It's super slimming for any body type.
A banging outfit that'll make you look thinner? Count me IN.
2. It commands the attention of everyone around you.
When you walk into the room, all eyes go directly to you. In the words of Nicki Minaj, "When I walk in, sit up straight. I don't give a f— if I was late."
3. The cat in Hocus Pocus was black (a.k.a. Thackary Binx) AND in Sabrina The Teenage Witch (a.k.a. Salem)
Two of the greatest characters to ever grace the TV screen. They eliminated the stigma around black cats being bad luck and stole the spotlight in their respective movie/show. This might seem silly, but just go back and watch these and then get back to me.
4. It goes with absolutely everything.
Black shoes, black pants, a black shirt, dying your hair black in a spur of the moment breakdown during finals week (...don't give me that look)—it all matches perfectly with every accessory!
5. It isn't specific to one season.
I don't know who made the rule that we can't wear white after labor day, but its annoying. However, black is always in season. Don't worry about getting sideways looks from your campus fashionista when you show up head to toe in black in the middle of the spring because it's the color that just won't quit.
6. It's the perfect excuse to wear those 'pop of color' pumps you bought on a whim.
Let's get real with each other—a pair of bright red pumps is almost harder to resist than chocolate. So, if you buy them with money you don't really have to spend, try not to worry too much. All of those wonderful, black clothes in your closet will accent them perfectly.
7. It can be both formal and casual.
Everyone has that staple pair of black leggings that we can't wait to whip out the second the temperature drops belong 65 degrees Fahrenheit. But the whimsical thing is, you can also rock black in the form of an evening gown any time, anywhere.
My point here is, don't be so quick to label people as lazy or soulless when all they do is wear black clothing. Black is the new fabulous, honey, and its time we all realized that.
