Where do I even begin? It's not often that words fail me, a fact that you know all too well. Not everyone is as lucky as I am in the dad department. My whole life, you've been a constant presence, for which I am forever grateful.
I can say without a doubt that moving away from you when I was 14 was one of the hardest things I've ever done. Even with our weekly Skype sessions and our visits over school breaks, I felt a huge loss. It's a difficult adjustment to make—going from seeing someone every day or living just down the road from them to living hundreds of miles away from them and seeing them for a few weeks here and there.
I always figured that as I adjusted to the custody agreement and going back and forth between you and mom, it would feel easier—more normal. But I quickly realized that I was wrong. To this day, it's still just as difficult and heartbreaking as it was at the first holiday we spent with you six years ago. I know now that it will never get any easier to say goodbye to you.

I am a daddy's girl and I am not ashamed of that. You were the first man I ever loved, my one and only example of how a man should treat his family. You've always done everything you could to help me succeed. From your encouraging words to the random cartoons you send me, you've always known what I needed to hear to motivate and inspire me to keep going.
You're stronger than any superhero. You're the best gift-giver, the best driving teacher, the best cook, and the best father. I have more things than I can even think of to thank you for—certainly too many things to squeeze into one article—but that doesn't mean I can't try.

Thank you for expanding my musical horizons by influencing my taste in music.
Thank you for teaching me that the best way to treat a sunburn is with ice cream from Mr. Freeze.
Thank you for the wise words, "Don't think of yourself as an ugly person, think of yourself as a beautiful monkey." Or the wise words, "You're a pretty girl. Until you start trying to make yourself pretty, then you're a trainwreck in a tornado."

Thank you for never forcing me to grow up. Whether it was pushing me around in a shopping cart when I was 13 or taking me to ride the giraffe on the carousel at the zoo for my 15th birthday, you've always supported and encouraged my childish whims.
Thanks for showing me the power of my puppy dog eyes and how much I can get done just by batting my eyelashes.
Thank you for giving me everything I need to succeed.

I love you, dad. Happy Father's Day. And always remember that as long as there are spiders, you have a purpose.
