8 Things A Daughter Could Thank You For This Father's Day
Sara Durphy

Most people do not understand my dad. He is a strong hard-working man who makes sure me and my family are always happy. Now it is my turn to thank you.

1. Thank you for teaching me how to play sports and having me take karate.

Growing up I started karate at five and played an array of sports. From baseball to softball to basketball to lacrosse thank's for always being there for me. You were the best coach I could ask for and I loved having you to have a catch with and play sports with.

2. Thank you for helping me with all my projects that I had to build growing up.

When I was growing up and had a project that required building from my 6th-grade invention project to my 7th-grade cell project thank's for sitting and building these projects with me.

3. Thank you for working so hard for us.

You work so hard for our family. Working full time volunteering for all of our athletics. From being on the board of little league to being on the football board you always made sure to take a part in our athletics. (Shout out to mom for doing just as much volunteering from team mom to snack stand director).

4. Thank you for being there for me.

I feel like most people my age feel like they can't turn to their dad for advice. However, I feel like whenever I truly need something you will be there for me without a question.

5. Thank you for constantly believing in me.

I know sometimes I do not always do things right but you and mom are my biggest cheerleaders and believers. I am so thankful to have parents that believe in me as much as possible.

6. Thank you for teaching me new things.

You have taught me so much besides in sports. You have taught me how to change a tire and how to be myself.

7. Thank you for constantly helping me.

I know I ask for a lot but thank you and I am so appreciative of you and mom for allowing me to have all of the amazing experiences that I have had.

8. Thank you for being the best dad.

From sweet sixteens to vacations to graduation parties thank you for always being there for me. Thanks for being the handyman of the family and constantly updating and fixing things. Thank you for being great and always making me smile.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows.
