An Open Letter To My Dad

Thank you for being my rock.

An Open Letter To My Dad
Jordan Nimeh

Dad,

Ever since I was little your intelligence, strength, and thoughtfulness filled the walls in the house I grew up in. You have inspired me in everything I have done, from playing kinder-soccer, to the 5th grade chorus concert, to the high school cheerleading competitions, to the college biology questions, you were with me. I look up to you and hope one day I can be just as successful as you.

At times your strict rules got under my skin. I hated that you wouldn’t let me go to a concert alone, let me drive past 11:00, or go to the post prom party, but in perspective I thank you for not letting me do that. You pushed me to reach my goals and to do my best. I remember coming home in tears after getting my first bad grade, wondering what you would think. I was afraid to let you down because of the such high standards you held me too.

As Father's Day is right around the corner I want to thank you for all of the things you do for me.

Thank you for pushing me to do my best.

Thank you for being serious with me when I wanted to be silly.

Thank you for loving me unconditionally.

Thank you for giving me everything I could have imagined.

Thank you for teaching me to share with my siblings.

Thank you for teaching me how to be the better person.

Thank you for supporting me through all my activities.

Thank you for putting up with my complaints and drama.

Thank you for showing me true love, with you and mom.

Thank you for being the best dad.

Dad, I love you.

Friendship. It's defined as the state of being attached to another person by feelings of affection or personal regard, but what really is friendship? Is it that occasional hallway talk with that one person who always manages to cheer you up? Is it that relationship you have with someone where they can be gone for a long period of time, but when they come back, it's like they never left? Is it spending every waking hour with someone, and knowing every detail about their life? Is it the relationship that's filled with fighting, but filled with even more resolution? I've learned that it's all of these things, and every friendship is different. It's a beautifully dysfunctional mess that should always be cherished and never be taken for granted.
