Butterfly Kisses

I'll love you forever, I'll like you for always, As long as I'm living, My daddy you'll be.

Butterfly Kisses
Cathy Case

That day in the hospital

He did not leave her side

For he was a proud daddy

Not one to be pushed aside.

For he left his wife in the room

In order to see

His new baby daughter

How beautiful could she be?

He watched her grow

He watched her learn

She learned from her faults

And now it was her turn.

Her hair was up in a bow

Her favorite dress just on her so

It was her first day of Kindergarten

And she could not wait to go.

Pictures were took

Goodbyes were a dread

She took one step onto the bus

No more words to be said.

And though her daddy always told her

She was his baby girl

Now she’s off and alone

To find her way in this world.

And though the years passed

She always felt

About that one special daddy

Who made her heart melt.

Times did get rough

Arguments were said

But even in the end

She got butterfly kisses

Right on her head.

She was now entering high school

And he was so proud

Of what she had accomplished

Of who she had become right now.

He knew the time was limited

Before she had to move on

To find a place at college

But he never let on.

For as sad as he could be

He never forgot and always knew

That one day in the hospital

Oh boy how she grew.

Look at her in her gown and cap

Walking to get her diploma,

With that smile on her face

And that sparkle in her eye

Her daddy knew the world couldn’t harm her.

She found her way

To that one special college

Where she met a new boy,

Who opened her eyes

And showed her,

That there’s more out there

Then just what she’s been seeing.

So she took him home

And what do you know

Her momma liked him

But her daddy didn’t know.

“You’ll always be my baby,”

He would say

“And I just don’t know,

If I’m ready to give you away though.”

There were many times

They went to visit the families

And many more times

She thought about making her own family.

They didn’t want to rush things

Because of the fear they wouldn’t last

But every time they saw each other

She could always see him for the best.

The more time they spent together

The more and more

She wanted it to last forever

And there they were.

Just as happy as ever

Until one night

He asked her at dinner.

“I love you and I want to spend the rest of my life with you,”

He said,

Then got down on one knee

And gave her the ring

With tears in her eyes,

And love in her heart,

She promised that boy her life.

After she said yes

She took out her phone

To call her daddy

To tell him on her own.

There was silence at first

But he knew it was coming

There was no way to stop it

No way to keep running.

“I’m very happy,” he would say,

As his head dropped towards his lap

His beautiful baby girl

Who just a few years ago

Graduated in her gown and cap.

The date had been set

Invitations had been handed out

But there was still one last thing

The father and bride dance he forgot about.

He knew the perfect song

And cried the first time he heard it

But what would it be like

To dance upon the floor to it?

The day had finally come,

And she couldn’t wait to see

Her new husband in his tux

But she really wanted to see her daddy.

“So she’ll change her name today.

She’ll make a promise

And he’ll give her away.

Standing in the brides-room

Just staring at her.

She asked him what he’s thinking

And he said, “I’m not sure.

I just feel like I’m losing my baby girl,”

So she leaned over

And gave him butterfly kisses

With her momma there

Sticking little white flowers

All up in her hair.

‘Walk me down the aisle daddy;

It’s just about time,

Does my wedding gown look pretty daddy?

Daddy don’t cry.’

‘Oh with all that he’s done wrong

He must have done something right

To deserve a hug every morning

And butterfly kisses at night.’”

He then walked her down the aisle

And danced to their perfect song

She had the time of her life

She had fun all night long

And her daddy then knew she was ready

To take the world on, on her own

For once again he saw that big smile on her face

And he finally realized she was ready to be gone.

And to this day

The love between them they shared

And the bond they shared

Could never be replaced

Not in a million years.

It wasn’t long

Until joy was brought into their life

For there was a new baby boy

For the new husband and wife.

Soon came another

Except this time was a girl

Who brought a whole new meaning to their life

And made their world twirl.

And as the kids got older

So did her dad

Soon very fragile and weak

Which made her very sad.

So as he got old

She took him in

But she was afraid

She soon wouldn’t see him again.

“Now he hugs her when he sees her

And they talk about the past

He tries to give her money

And she tries to give it back

Here’s a book of advice

More than she needs

The look in his eyes is saying to her

‘Let me help you all I can,

While I’m still in this world…’

Because what will you do when your daddy’s gone

And you’re…

Daddy’s Baby Girl”

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?
