A Father's Daughter

He will forever hold the key to my heart, because he is the one that mended it time and time again.

In every man’s life, he wishes for a son. A son that will grow up and play ball with his dad. A son that will follow in his father’s footsteps and do everything his father does. All father’s look forward to having their child look up to them. Therefore, hearing the words “It’s a girl” is not something most fathers wish for. Little do they know, they are about to have the biggest blessing ever.

As someone who completely loves both her parents, I still have to admit there is a bond between a father and a daughter that no one can understand. As daughters, dads are 100 percent our heroes. They give us a perfect representation of what to look for in a man. Is he hardworking like my father? Does he treat women right, like my father? Will he hold me when I cry, like my father? These are all questions we ask ourselves when finding the love of our life.

They are there for us no matter what. When we come home crying because a girl at school called us “ugly,” our fathers are always right there to reassure us that “daddy’s little princess is the most beautiful of all.” When we come home completely heartbroken because we found out our crush likes someone else, our fathers are there to make sure we know he was not worth our precious time anyway. When we join the team or squad, guess who is there to cheer on his daughter? That’s right, our fathers. He’s ready to yell at any coach or referee that does the “star player” wrong, because that’s what number one fans are for.

He is always our first love. Every little girl dreams of marrying their dad, because there is no such thing as a better man. It is just endless dreams of happiness with your father (even though you are stealing him away from your mother, but who cares. It is for your happiness, right? Mom should be cool with it). He is our Knight in shining armor. He rescues us from the carpet lava, or the imaginary shark that is about to sink the couch ship. He is the king we look up to, and we are the princess that everyone wants to be.

You see, fathers and daughters create a magical relationship that every little girl should have. He is the one that teaches you how to ride a bike, or tie your shoe. He is the one that you want to read to you before bed, because mommy doesn’t do the voice right. He is the one you come running to when you fall down. He is the one that you crawl in bed with when you have a bad dream, or the one that rubs your tummy when you feel sick.

My dad is the number one man in my life, and he always will be. He will forever hold the key to my heart, because he is the one that mended it time and time again.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
