Fashion is for the fat, the fun, the free

Wash away your preconceived notions that fashion is for the build and body of a model. In my opinion, the complete opposite is true. If I was as thin as Gigi Hadid or Kendall Jenner, I would just walk around naked constantly. Why wear clothing to hide Victoria’s Secret Angel bodies? Unfortunately, like all the rest of us, I have a list of reasons why my body is never good enough. Like most girls my age, when I look in the mirror, I see that my butt and my boobs are too small, my stomach is too big and I don’t have the famous thigh gap. Many of my friends take this as an excuse to hide their bodies and hate the idea of trying on clothes. Clothing is the perfect way to hide insecurities by accentuating the positive aspects of yourself and skillfully camouflaging the negatives.

Big chest.

Don’t hide them! Do not try to hide your breasts under tents of clothing because it gives the impression that you not only have large breasts, but a large stomach as well. Instead of hiding them, try keeping them covered but accentuating your waist. By showing your cleavage off in a covered way you can also easily create a Jessica Rabbit body shape that I would kill for. So take off the layers of bandeaus and sports bras you are wearing to suppress your breasts, and show the proportionally small waist you have below it!

Small chest.

If you have small boobs that you are insecure about, then go straight to the mall and buy the best bra you can find. A good bra can accentuate even the smallest of bug bites creating a much fuller and more voluptuous look. Color is also so important to take advantage of, using lighter colors on your chest makes your breasts look fuller. Darker colors on your waist will make it look smaller and thus make your boobs look larger. Also, take advantage of small boobs because they are currently in style! Braless is all the rage and small boobs are the perfect way to pull off the look.

Small butt.

This is my ultimate insecurity and learning ways to show off the little booty I have in a world of Beyoncé, J-Lo, and twerking has been a struggle. Buying pants that are the right size are crucial. If the pants are too tight it will flatten you more, and too lose makes it look as if you have your grandmother's butt. To work the little assets I have, I try to wear stretch denim so that it can fit both my waste and my butt. I also try to look for lighter washes on the back pockets of jeans. Lighter colors make things look bigger, and in that area bigger always seems to be better. Try to avoid vertical color blocking on dresses and skirts though, because this will make you look flat and not fat (in a good way). Flimsy fabrics make your butt look sad, so buy thicker fabrics because it will make you look thick too!

Large stomach.

This one is for everyone because we all feel as if we would look better if we lost just a little weight in our stomachs. Finding the smallest part of your waist is the first step in finding confidence in this area. The tiniest part of your waist can be the only part of your waist that exists by looking for things that draw attention whether by cut, design, color or texture to that area. Now, because buying clothing that hugs that part will be your only focus, block out the rest and only look at the best when it comes to your stomach because it is so easy to hide! You can also use bunching and folds in fabric to hide self-perceived problem areas.

Fashion has a misconception that it is for the thin. Fashion is for the fat, the fun and the free. Your figure is something you need to figure out. Everyone is beautiful, and you just need to find how to feel that way. Take some breaths, try out my tips, and you will have a much better shopping experience.

College is filled with many things, and we're so often lectured to make the right decisions as we head out on our own into the college life. But sometimes it's necessary to indulge in some guilty pleasures as well as just doing things because you can. And honestly, a lot of the time it's inevitable. College is no piece of cake that's for sure, so it's okay to do some things you deep down know you shouldn't....once in a while anyways.
