April for college students means a million deadlines written in your planner, waking up and definitely not feeling like sitting in lecture classes all day, and still not knowing what you’re doing over the summer (or maybe that’s just me?). This means you have to find your own ways to escape the crazy for a bit.

I'm not suggesting that you gorge on these treats all the time, because moderation is key. But go for a long walk or a long drive, and pick one of the desserts on this list to treat yo self to. You deserve it!

1. Chocolate frosty from Wendy's

My all-time favorite. I think the fries at Wendy's are on the salty side just because they taste perfect dipped in a chocolate frosty.

2. Chocolate Xtreme Blizzard from Dairy Queen

Yes. Messy, but yes. Somehow it doesn't taste like there's too much chocolate, even though it has brownies, choco chunks, and cocoa fudge.

3. Jamocha shake from Arby's

Until I came to school in North Dakota, I didn't know this existed because in California, no one talks about Arby's. It's a place that's kind of just there. But chocolate and coffee are my favorite things, so needless to say...yum.

4. Oreo Blast from Sonic

I have a friend back in California who worked at Sonic and swears that Oreo blasts are the number one thing people order. I can see why, because the ice cream is so rich and creamy. Drool.

5. Cookies & Cream Milkshake from Chick-fil-A

This shake is the perfect consistency. I like the Oreo blast better, but since this isn't as messy, it's still a good go-to.

6. Any Concrete Mixer from Culver's

Culver's is something else I didn't know about until I came to North Dakota. There aren't any frozen custard places near me in California, so the fact that I can get it at college makes me happy. The best mix-in is M&M's in my opinion.

7. Pie from McDonald's

I didn't know whether to choose apple or pumpkin pie, so I just put "pie." I tried the pumpkin pie last fall, and even though I usually don't like pumpkin pie, this one was great!

8. Cinnamon bread sticks from Domino's

It's hard to resist ordering these if you're already ordering a pizza. Fun fact, they're good even if you put them in the fridge and heat them up again later!

9. Triple chocolate brownie from Pizza Hut

This is always a good decision. It's super rich so you can save it and eat it after like three different meals as a dessert.

10. Candy cookie from Panera Bread

When they ask, "Would you like a pastry for 99 cents?" It's hard to say no to these.

Little treats like these tend to be the best way to brighten your day. Give one of them a try!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
