Slang terms: Overused terminology typically used to pigeon hole somebody into a certain age group or generation. By that meaning alone, it's no shocker to me that I've always cringed at certain sayings when they reach their absolute peak of popularity.

However, this is coming from someone who just watched a couple hours of "Murder, She Wrote" here. With that being said, I might not be the right person to get your "how to be cool tips" from, but I can give you some straight forward advice on which words of today you should avoid if you don't want to sound like an absolute moron with your friends, family and co-workers. Hope you learn something.

1. Adulting

This one kills me. The grammar obsessed, English student in me is truly sickened by this word. Hell, it's not even a real word. You can't add an "ing" to the end of any noun and just think it makes a word. No, that's not how the English language works, even in 2016. We have come a long way with technology, medicine, etc. throughout the years but adding the rule to the English language that it's okay to add "ing" to the end of any noun is not one of those ways. And thank goodness for that!

It seems that people use "adulting" when trying to describe doing typical activities, chores or tasks of an individual that is indeed... an adult. Things that they think warrant some sort of praise. "Congratulations, you're an adult. Have a gold star!"

Bottom line, if you use the term "adulting," then you are not an adult in my book. If this term is in your regular vocabulary, my recommendation to you is that if you ever feel inclined to discuss ways in which you are... "being an adult" then you probably should use an actual term like, "being an adult."

2. Squad Goals

I'm pretty sure I heard at one point in time that this term came into use because of Taylor Swift. As if that wasn't reason enough alone to dislike it, but wait... there is more. This term is so conflicting to me, it's just unreal. First of all, how can you have goals for a group of people? Why not develop some damn goals for your individual self? I never had dreams and aspirations for the types of people who I wanted to be a part of my friend group. Pssh, who am I kidding? I've never even had a "friend group" and maybe I just don't get it. Maybe being the lone wolf that I am, I am utterly clueless to the impact of this term. Highly doubt it though.

The best of all about "squad goals" is when I typically see this term being used it isn't goals for a group of people such as, "We all just got really good jobs!" or "We all decided to help someone out in need!" It's more like, "We all are wearing the same ugly as sin style of clothing. Worship us. We think we're hot shit." or "We all are out at a bar and drinking some nasty ass beer. We look so cute."

3. Bae

Do I even need to put an explanation here? I think it's safe to say that 95% of the population is sick of this "term." And after all of the times I have heard of it, I'm still a little confused on its true meaning. And more importantly, its purpose in society.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
