Fashion Trends Inspired By “Friends”

Over a decade ago the greatest TV show ever created came to an end, that show being none other than the iconic “Friends”. If you’re anything like me you’ve probably seen all ten seasons multiple times and can’t help but tear up at the series finale every single time. You’ve tried using Joey’s famous pickup line, craved Monica’s lasagna, memorized the lyrics to “Smelly Cat,” identified with Chandler’s social awkwardness, patiently waited for your lobster to come back to you like Ross and lusted for a closet like Rachel’s. You’ve gotten so emotionally attached to the show that you feel as if you’re the seventh friend, which made saying goodbye even harder (luckily we can binge watch on Netflix).

Lucky for all of us “Friends” fanatics, news was just released that there will be a two-hour reunion episode coming out on February 21st! A day that is going to be better than Christmas and my birthday combined! In honor of this incredible and overdue reunion, here are some modern day fashion trends inspired by the leading ladies of “Friends.”

Rachel Green:

Being a former employee for Bloomingdale’s and Ralph Lauren, Rachel Green is definitely crowned the “Friends” fashion queen. She is a style icon of the 90’s and effortlessly pulled off every outfit she ever wore. From the moment she stood up Barry at the altar, up until the day she (almost) went to Paris, Rachel Green has kept her wardrobe precisely on trend. Regardless of the fact that Rachel’s wardrobe has been unattainable to us viewers for the past decade, her classic looks have been reborn into the new generation. Thank you, Rachel Green, for the gift of the plaid and overall trends.

Monica Geller:

We all have a little Monica inside of us. Whether it be because of her insane OCD or her prior inability to say no to any kind of food, Monica is easily one of the most relatable characters on the show. But her relatability isn’t just due to her personality; it is also because of her timeless wardrobe. She kept most of her outfits simple and easy, usually jeans and a top of some sort. In spite of her simple style, Monica still frequently sported specific trends that are coming back into the market today- we’re talking about mom jeans and button-ups.

Phoebe Buffay:

Phoebe Buffay might take the first place position as my favorite character on the show. She is sarcastic, unique, hilarious and quite the musical talent. She also inspired the bohemian trend through her hippie-ish outfits and long wavy blonde hair. Although bohemian fashion is less popular today than it was a few years back, there are a few fashion trends, vests and maxi dresses, encouraged by Phoebe that are frequently seen all over the world today.

Now as I said earlier, all these styles sported by the women of "Friends" are currently coming back into trend for our generation. Although the basic trend is the same, we have modernized these styles for what is popular today. Here is a look at how these six "Friends" trends are worn on our streets today.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Everybody gets sick once in a while, but getting sick while in college is the absolute worst. You're away from home and your mom who can take care of you and all you really want to do is just be in your own bed. You feel like you will have never-ending classwork to catch up on if you miss class, so you end up going sick and then it just takes longer to get better. Being sick in college is really tough and definitely not a fun experience. Here are the 15 stages that everyone ends up going through when they are sick at college.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
