Don't let the Florida sun be the only thing heating up the summer. Start off the season by revamping the way you look and, in turn, feel. It's difficult to keep up with the ever-changing styles of the fashion industry. However, we can look at both fashion magazines and models to test out the latest trends. With this, here are the hottest fads to incorporate into your wardrobe.
1. The 90s
Decades of fashion still continue to influence the trends of today. We have left behind the flashy neons and leg warmers of the 80s but held onto high-waisted shorts that are a necessity in almost any 20-year-old's closet. The 90s is no different.
Celebrities like the Hadid sisters and Rihanna are a part of the tiny sunglasses or "tiny sunnies" revival. The shades typically come in a variation of colors and styles - pretty impractical but add an extra edge to your look.
Models Kendall Jenner and Kaia Gerber introduce a new way to style the mom-associated accessory, the "bumbag." Taking the British term for the fanny pack, the bumbag is draped across one's shoulder, crossing the front of the body. Since this trend made a comeback, stores like Urban Outfitters have stocked their stores with a variety of these cross bodies from brands Adidas and FILA.
2. Pastels
The color scheme splashed across Spring/Summer 2018 fashion runways. Soft hues of lilac and yellow complement denim wash pairings while adding a subtle pop of color.
In fact, Disney contributed to the trend with its introduction of the Millenial Pink MagicBand as well as matching ears in early April.
3. Wrap Bottoms
Tight shorts are no longer desirable. One can switch up their wardrobe with tie-front skirts and shorts. This dresses up an outfit while maintaining comfortability. Pairing it with a cropped graphic tee creates a casual yet sophisticated look.
4. Floral Print Midi Dress
The 90s style makes a reappearance with this Rachel Green-esque piece. Celebs like Selena Gomez show the effortlessness of the look that flows on one's figure - perfect for the summer. As seen through all three picutres, white sneakers dress down the look by providing a sense of casualness.
5. Espadrilles

Adding a pair of platform sandals with the aforementioned floral dress elevates the look. Choosing a nude color, as with most shoes, blends with the natural skin tone thus giving a heightened effect.
6. Layered Chokers
The fashion world has seemingly taken a step back from accessorizing with jewelry. A few layered necklaces are a simplistic way of adding detail to an outfit without taking away from the look. Here's ann added tip when deciding between gold and silver: gold tends to accent people with dark skin and yellow undertones while silver suits cooler complexions with rosy undertones.
7. Vintage Tee
A vintage tee can be an immediate go-to when you're in a rush but want to look stylish. If you walk into a Forever21, you will immediately notice the array of band tees scattered across the store. Rather than spending nearly 20 dollars for a ripped-up tee, thrift stores often carry hidden gems for a low cost. The men's section is a great place to find large shirts that can either be worn as dresses or cut into an oversized crop top. Since it was purchased at a bargain store, you won't feel hesitant about making it your own. This look can be complemented with a pair of white sneakers. It's comfy but can also be a simple reflection of one's style.
8. Slides
Comfortable yet stylish seems to be a common theme among these trends. By now, many people are aware of the mass popularity of Gucci slides. The appeal of this shoe comes from its easy wear and ability to match almost any look. Like most college students, my savings go towards a spontaneous order of Midnight Cookies or Starbucks runs. Luckily, Forever21 offers cute, afforadble options of non-athleisure slides.
