Maybe it's the generational gap between me and my parents that contributes to the misunderstanding between us when it comes to fashion trends. While they don't necessarily despise all trending styles of our generation, they certainly aren't too fond of them either. My mom and dad simply don't understand why we pay more for less material or why we put so much emphasis on our eyebrows (I don't really get it either, to be honest). But hey, I'm just going with the flow here. Below are 5 trends that most parents don't quite "get".
The Ripped Jeans Look

I own several pairs of ripped jeans, and I love wearing them during springtime. My parents, however (my dad especially) do not see the point in having holes in your pants. Whenever I wear my ripped jeans, my dad says: "You're paying more for less material." He has a point, but despite the fact that whenever I put them on my foot goes right through the hole, I still can't help but wear them.
Cropped Shirts And Sweaters

Similarly to ripped jeans, I own a few cropped shirts and sweaters. The reason being is because the big baggy shirts and sweaters that I own make me look sloppy, and they simply do not suit me unless I'm wearing them to sleep. When I used to go shopping with my mom, she would always give me that look of disapproval whenever I picked out a cropped sweater. My mom claims that sweaters are supposed to keep you warm during the winter, and cropped sweaters do the exact opposite because they're cropped.
Drawing Or Filling In Your Eyebrows

While I don't draw in my eyebrows anymore because I don't know how to do it well, a majority of my friends draw or fill in theirs. There was a period of time during which I attempted to do the same because I accidentally plucked off a portion of my eyebrow (it's OK, you can laugh - because I did, too). Whenever I walked downstairs with my overly-filled eyebrows (they looked like two black rectangles, and in retrospect, I'm most definitely NOT proud of them), my dad would repeat over and over: "Why do you have to fill them in? No one's going to look at your eyebrows anyway."
The Teddy Bear Jacket

Recently, many girls have been flaunting their brown and black, what I call, "teddy bear jackets." Of course, I had to follow the trend so I bought the brown version of the jacket. However, before I wore it, I threw it in the wash with my other clothes, and when it was time to take everything out, there was fur EVERYWHERE. It stuck to all of my clothes, and when I told my mom, she asked me to throw the jacket away. Despite her disapproval, I purchased another one, and this time, I asked my mom to hand wash it - we haven't had a problem since, despite the fact that it takes forever to dry.
Oversized Anything

My parents purchase clothes that fit them exactly. You will never see them wearing clothing that is a size too small or too large. I, on the other hand, actually believe that oversized jean jackets and hoodies are a look. Oversized jackets especially make it easier to layer clothing during the winter months. My parents see this as me choosing the incorrect size, and they hope it will shrink in the wash. I constantly have to explain to them that oversized anything is trendy nowadays, yet they still refuse to acknowledge it.
