Fashion At The Oscars: Favorites And Hate-Its

The red carpet is a separate show in and of itself.

On Feb. 28, 2016, the 88th Academy Awards aired and there were a lot of cool and interesting things that happened. Leo finally won an Oscar, Chris Rock made jokes about the racial controversy surrounding the show and Lady Gaga gave a powerful performance. But aside from all of that, the fashion on the red carpet happened to be both amazing and dreadful. I put together the best and worst looks of the night so you don't have to sit through "Fashion Police" to find out. (Side note: no men were included in this list because let's face it: they're all wearing the same exact tux.)

Best:

5. Priyanka Chopra

Priyanka Chopra looked absolutely stunning in this Zuhair Murad dress. From the gorgeous detailing to the elegant belt, she was definitely working it.

4. Jenny Beavan

If you were watching last night, then you were probably thinking, "What is this lady wearing...? Who let her into the Oscars?" Well, this is Jenny Beavan, an acclaimed costume designer who won for "Mad Max: Fury Road." She looked incredibly bad-ass in this custom leather jacket featuring a skull and flames to represent the film. I had to include her because she's being true to herself in what she wore.

3. Olivia Munn

For number three, I had to go with Olivia Munn. I live for simple elegance like this Stella McCartney dress and she's rocking it. Paired with simple jewels, a red lip and a sleek bun and Olivia looks ready to take over the world.

2. Saoirse Ronan

Saoirse Ronan walked onto the red carpet and my jaw dropped. This custom Calvin Klein dress hugs her body in every right way and the emerald color (to represent her home country of Ireland) is absolutely breathtaking.

1. Brie Larson

Brie Larson... there are no words. I immediately fell in love with this breathtaking Gucci dress. From the fabric to the insane belt to the flattering neckline, I am overwhelmed. Her hair looks amazing slicked back like that and it doesn't take anything away from beauty of the gown. Well done, Brie!

Worst:

5. Kate Winslet

Three words: glossy trash bag.

4.Charlize Theron

Charlize, I loved you in "Mad Max: Fury Road." But this Dior dress is doing nothing for you. The deep neckline and spaghetti straps look awkward and the train seems weirdly long. Red is your color, though!

3. Rooney Mara

I'm going to be honest: I literally laughed out loud when I saw this dress last night. Don't get me wrong, Rooney Mara is a fantastic actress, but this dress? A terrible decision. I hate the weird diamond cut in the middle and the fabric looks like a table cloth. It's a no from me.

2. Heidi Klum

Heidi, I have two solutions for this: lose the flowers and lose the sleeve. And maybe do something about the weird shape that's going on on your chest. Is that a quadrilateral?

1. Olivia Wilde

Sorry, Olivia, but you're taking the top spot on the terrible dresses list. Olivia Wilde is an overall gorgeous person that can honestly work everything except this dress. I don't understand the choker or the neckline, which looks kind of like that picture Kim Kardashian posted of her trick to keep her cleavage looking good. Maybe next year, Olivia.

28 Daily Thoughts of College Students

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
