Space is so vast and unknown that we constantly find ourselves discovering new details we never saw before. As a result, there are tons of intriguing facts about space that researchers have uncovered thus far, but here are 15 of those amazing facts that will blow your mind!

Venus

Contrary to popular belief, Venus is actually the hottest planet in our solar system, not Mercury! This is because Venus contains an atmosphere while Mercury does not, making it able to trap heat better than Mercury does.

Footprints

The first footprints made by Armstrong and his team are still on the moon today because there is no wind to blow them away.

PLUTO

The diameter of Pluto is smaller than the width of the United States from west to east coast. In fact, its width is about one-half of America's!

Neptune's Moon

Triton, a moon of Neptune, orbits the planet in reverse direction and is gradually getting closer to Neptune. Sounds scary! This kind of orbit is actually called a "retrograde orbit".

Stars

There are 10 times more stars in space than the number of sand grains on our planet.

Manned Projects

The largest manned object ever sent to space is the International Space Station (ISS), with a length of over 100 meters. Their website constantly updates us about what's going on out in space!

Mars and the Moon

We have mapped 100% of Mars and our moon, but we've only been able to uncover about 5% of the ocean floors in our world. What a strange contrast.

Earth's Rotation

Our days are getting longer because Earth is rotating at a slower rate than in the past and is continuing to slow down. You can read more about this here.

Black Hole

The first ever photo of a black hole was released in April of 2019, captured by the Event Horizon Telescope.

Sound in Space

If you ever want a sound-proof zone, space would be the place! Because it is a vacuum, sound waves cannot flow through, so you couldn't even hear someone screaming.

Food and Drinks in Space

The first food eaten in space was applesauce, and the first soda drank was Coca-Cola.

Saturn

Saturn is the second largest, but also lightest, planet. It is made up of mainly gas, so it could float if it were to ever be surrounded by water! Its rings are also beautiful and vast.

Sunsets on Mars

Sunsets look blue on Mars due to the way the blue light is reflected and captured from the Sun.

Jupiter's Storm

The "Great Red Spot" on Jupiter, created by hurricanes and storms, is slowly shrinking every year and is no longer three times the size of Earth. That still doesn't mean that it's huge!

55 Cancri e

55 Cancri e is a super-Earth planet that was believed to be made up of mostly graphite and diamonds. The headline of this article says all about what we consider 55 Cnc e to be.

When I was learning how to talk, I was taught both Portuguese and English at the same time. In elementary school, I started taking mandatory Spanish classes, which I did well in because of my knowledge of Portuguese. Then in high school, on top of taking Spanish, I also started taking French. Now, in college, already fluent in English and Portuguese, I'm in the process of becoming fluent in Spanish, and I have a standard high school level understanding of French.
