Growing up in Michigan, I have seen some of the sports world’s greatest arenas/stadiums come and go. This list includes Olympia Stadium, The Silverdome, Tiger Stadium, and now The Palace and Joe Louis Arena. The Joe has been a place cemented in Hockey history ever since the Red Wings first stepped foot on the ice there. It's where Legends were born and where “Hockeytown” began. In my lifetime, so many big moments in Detroit sports have taken place inside Joe Louis Arena. It's where a lot of my favorite athletes got their start and made a name for themselves. These players include Steve Yzerman, Brendan Shanahan, Sergei Fedorov, Kirk Maltby, Kris Draper, Darren McCarty, Nickolas Lindstrom, Pavel Datsyuk, and let’s not forget Gordie Howe. The list goes on and on. This place has had more big names touch the ice than any other stadium in the country. You can feel the passion, the competitive fire, the excitement, and the history when you see and enter this place. It’s an amazing feeling to witness and it's something everyone needs to do before this place closes its doors. It’s going to be a sad day when this place closes and is then demolished.

Some people are overjoyed that the Red Wings are moving to Little Caesar’s Arena and this place is closing its doors. One NBC analyst stated on National Television that “The Joe was a dump when the Wings entered it, and it will still be a dump when its doors close.” Let’s just say he didn’t get too many nice comments towards what he said that day. While some people are happy the Wings are moving, a lot of us are sad to see the place go. It was a place that many of us went to as a child and continued to go to as we grew up. The place was exciting even when the Wings were having a down year. Granted there hasn’t been many down years since we have the longest playoff streak active right now in Professional Sports. The streak is up to 25 straight seasons with a playoff appearance which is insane. With the announcement of the Wings moving out of Joe Louis some cities are now calling themselves the new HockeyTown. (Yep, I’m talking about you Chicago!) Let me just say this right now: you will never be HockeyTown and you will never come even close to becoming it either. Detroit is and will always be HockeyTown if the Detroit Red Wings are rooted here. No team can compare to the history of Joe Louis and The Red Wings period. If you think I am wrong then don’t be afraid to shoot me an email or leave a comment because whatever you say I will have something to say to put you in your place.

So, as we look forward to the opening of Little Caesar’s Arena, the air around The Joe is bittersweet. You can feel its last breaths being breathed as you enter the arena and take your seat to watch one of the last Wings games played there. I just recently went to the St. Louis Blues game on Feb. 15th and you could really start to feel the arena slowly fade away. It was a sad feeling but I know that the history and passion of this place will carry over to the new arena. So, don’t be sad about this historic place; be excited about the future and what it must hold for the Wings because we are HOCKEYTOWN and we will always be no matter where we play.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
