A Final Farewell To Odyssey At Michigan State

On Febuary of 2014, I wrote my first Odyssey article titled "It Is What It Is." The piece was your typical editorial about dating as a college student, and as I sat at a round table near a snowy window of Starbucks, sipping on my caramel macchiato, I remember the rush of excitement I felt as I realized that I was about to become a published writer.

Since that cold, Febuary night, it's been a whirlwind of emotions. From freshmen to senior year, Odyssey has allowed me to uncover controversy, write on the millennial lifestyle, express my opinions and share my voice with the world. In this time, it has been such an honor to have been able to write and serve as the Editor in Chief for such an amazing publication for three years. With 90+ articles written, hundreds of articles edited, and an unbelievable team, there is nothing else I can say but thank you, Odyssey. You have given me the opportunity to speak freely, hone my skills as a writer and help me grow as a person, and I am forever grateful for the opportunities you have granted me in my college career. Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end, and it is now time for me to pass on the torch and say my final farewell.

A goodbye like this is so bittersweet. It's bitter because I will miss being a part of such an incredible community, leading an even more incredible team, and doing what I love most each week: writing. But, if there is a will there's a way, and Odyssey has only ignited that flame as my passion will grow brighter as I continue to write in my future. So stay tuned, readers! And, of course, it's sweet because I am now able to watch the legacy I have left behind continue to flourish as I open the door to another exciting chapter of my life.

So thank you, readers. Thank you for supporting me, reading my words and sharing my articles. I would not be where I am toady without you. Thank you, team. You all have given me so much and it has been such an honor to lead you and edit the amazing content you have created. Finally, thank you, Odyssey. Words cannot describe how grateful I am for this wonderful community that has welcomed me with open arms. Odyssey is such an innovative, creative platform that is so unique, and I have been extremely lucky to have worked for such an awesome company.

Thank you to all. It's been one hell of a ride.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
