On April 18th, "Castle" fans learned that Stana Katic (Kate Beckett) and Tamala Jones (Lanie Parish) were not going to be returning for the show's season nine. Less than month later, "Castle" fans heard the news all television watchers hate to hear. The show had been cancelled. As a show with eight seasons under it's belt, "Castle" had had a successful run on ABC.
So from one "Castle" fan, I would like to say farewell to the show. I have watched the show since the very beginning and it's hard to believe this past Monday was the series' last episode. I'm going to miss the humor Nathan Fillon (Richard Castle) brought to the 12th Precinct. This humor, in my opinion, is what set the show apart from other crime dramas. Not only his humor, but the entire idea of the character of Richard Castle is what drew me to the show. The fact that he is a writer himself made him very relatable to me.
"Castle was not the only character the show gifted us with. His sometimes (no pun intended) partners in crime, Ryan and Esposito added to the series' comic relief. Ryan, the lovable new dad and Espo, the serious but occasionally sarcastic often joined "Castle on his misadventures.
Additionally, the show produced several strong female characters who will also be missed. These characters showed that women can be strong, smart, and sarcastic while also being motherly figures and emotional. Beckett, the strong homicide detective who overtime worked as a Federal agent before becoming the Captain of the precinct. Castle's daughter, Alexis, proved females can be smart and independent. Martha, Castle's mother, was a bright, dramatic women who didn't care what people thought of her.
Overall this show and these characters will be dearly missed. Monday nights won't be the same without "Castle." Thank you to "Castle" and ABC for these past eight years.
