Saying Farewell To My Favorite Piece Of Clothing

Have you ever had a special pair of jeans that you wore every time it came out fresh from the wash? It fits just right, it's just how you like it, and you love it. In an odd way, you form a bond to that inanimate object. But someday, your favorite pair of jeans rip or are worn out beyond repair and it is time to say goodbye. This happens to me too, I understand your pain.

Why do we create these bonds with inanimate objects, such as a pair of jeans, or an awesome decal shirt? Well, usually this piece of clothing makes me feel good when I wear it. I feel trendy, comfortable, and the clothing's just comforting because of familiarity.

Currently, I have a blouse that I have worn for a long time, typically for business casual purposes. It is the first shirt I think of when I need to dress up. I've lost count of how many years I have relied on this shirt to dress me up and be comfortable at the same time. This shirt has been to two high school music department trips to Chicago and Virginia. My favorite shirt has "had my back" for me during my different internships, interviews, and many other business casual needs. My favorite shirt even went with me to my New York City trips.

But the end is looming near for my good-luck charm. The colors are not as crisp, the collar is not as taut, and it doesn't seem to have the same "bounce". I do however hope to take this shirt on its last big trip... to Ireland in May. After my trip to Ireland, I think it will be time to retire ol' faithful.

So here's to you, my favorite blouse!

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
