Last week I sat down with two of the most recognizable names in the Worcester rap community, Danny Fantom and Leon Legacy.
Danny Fantom, a new age solo Hip Hop artist with a conscience for real world problems, and a distaste for modern-day rap. Danny Fantom has performed with the likes of Ceschi, Obie Trice, Caskey, Madchild, Joyner Lucas, Itch, Cappadonna, MC Frontalot, Sammus, B. Dolan, Mega-Ran aka Random and Boston's HW. Highly involved in the Central MA hip hop scene, he hopes to unite the powers, and break out!
His story may start off like that of your everyday "run of the mill" rapper, An inner city kid born into a struggling family who dreamed of being something bigger, But Leon Legacy is far from your average emcee. His passionate, heart felt lyrics artfully spun into a fast-paced, high-energy lyrical cyclone, accompanied by soaring often anthemic hooks and explosive energy on stage are enough to set him a part from the crowd. But don't think for a second that any of this just comes naturally to him, it was years of hard work, blood, sweat and tears that turned him into the musical tour de force he is today.
An insatiable imagination and a natural tendency to question tradition often put him at ends with his peers growing up. As such social alienation and ridicule became a part of his life from a very early age. In these early years Leon found that creative writing and poetry were a powerful way for him to escape the cruelty of the other kids in school and in his neighborhood, but It wasn't until his teenage years where Leon finally found a medium to which he could speak his mind freely to the world and actually be heard, music.
After receiving an electric bass and acoustic guitar for his birthday one year he began exploring his new craft, experimenting with multiple different genre's ranging from Post-hardcore to pop, absorbing influence from everyone from Michael Jackson to Linkin' Park.
