Why I Fancy Friday

Sometimes, you just need to look cute for you.

Why I Fancy Friday

If you've ever seen my Instagram, you know that I have a weekly trend: Fancy Friday. Every Friday I dress up in an outfit I wouldn't normally wear on an average day of the week. Whether that means wearing a dress or a skirt and heels, I try to brighten up the end of the week with something to look forward to.

When I started my sophomore year of college, I was inspired by one of my friends from high school who had done the same thing. Every Friday, she posted a new outfit on her Instagram and I was enamored with the idea. The first week I tried out Fancy Fridays, many of my friends were shocked to see me in something other than jeans and a t-shirt. It took some getting used to on my end, but I soon began planning outfits days in advance and felt excited throughout the week. My high heels and swishing skirts were nothing new.

When junior year began, many friends asked if I planned on continuing with my Friday traditions or if I'd give it up. I responded in the affirmative, proclaiming the benefits of Fancy Fridays. It gives me something to be excited for during the week. It allows me to experiment with new outfits and find new styles I adore. It builds up my self-confidence by allowing me to look cute for me and just me. It makes me happy, especially if I've had a rough week or if I have plans that day.

Now as I enter senior year, I'm glad to say that my tradition is still going strong. I try to encourage friends to do the same and see how their weeks change. I've even had some friends tell me that they look forward to seeing what my outfit of the week will be. So if you're looking for a change this year, this month, or even just for the week, try dressing up one day out of the week. Give yourself some pampering and look and feel good just for you. You just might make a tradition out of it.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Blair Waldorf
Stop Hollywood

For those of you who have watched "Gossip Girl" before (and maybe more than just once), you know how important of a character Blair Waldorf is. Without Blair, the show doesn’t have any substance, scheme, or drama. Although the beginning of the show started off with Blair’s best friend Serena returning from boarding school, there just simply is no plot without Blair. With that being said, Blair’s presence in the show in much more complex than that. Her independent and go-getter ways have set an example for "Gossip Girl" fans since the show started and has not ended even years after the show ended. Blair never needed another person to define who she was and she certainly didn’t need a man to do that for her. When she envisioned a goal, she sought after it, and took it. This is why Blair’s demeanor encompasses strong women like her.

singing
Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
