Four Reasons To Go To A Fan Convention

That I've learned from my experiences at Supernatural Conventions

Events like San Diego Comic Con and Anime Convention have recently gotten a lot of attention and have become very popular. Some people still consider the events "geeky" which may discourage other people from attending, but if your interested in something and there is a convention for it, I highly encourage you to go! You'll enjoy it, experience something new, and, odds are, that if there is an entire convention for it, plenty of other people like it and you can be geeks together. Here are my reasons to go to a fan convention.

1. The excitement

The excitement that you feel is an entirely new experience on its own. You've been a fan of a show, game or company for a while and there is an entire weekend dedicated to this thing that you love. You go online to search for advice from people who have gone before, and you try to be as prepared as possible. Yet, you don't know what to expect. The only thing you know for sure us that when you get there, anything can happen.

2. The different events throughout the weekend and the Vendors' Room

There will be an itinerary for the weekend, released before the event. At Supernatural Conventions, the actors have panels where they answer questions from fans, but there is also a costume contest, trivia, and a fan-edited video contest. There are also special events like the free-for-all Friday Night Karaoke show and a Special Saturday Night Concert.

The Vendors' Room has a lot of merchandise for the show, sometimes there are even rare items that the actors designed themselves. They may also be booths for charities, like Random Acts, that take donations for local organizations that need help.

3. The people

There are people who love the show as much as you do, if not more. I find that there are some people who are extremely dedicated to the show, which isn't a bad thing. The people I've met at Supernatural conventions have been welcoming, funny, and kind. You already have something in common so there is so much potential for you to make new friends.

You can tell each other about your experience at past, or different, conventions. You can talk about your common love for the show, for the actors on the show, and your interactions with them too. This brings me to...

4. The cast and crew of the show!

After you've been a fan for so long, getting to see them in person is wonderful! At some point you realize that they're real people and you're honored to be in the same room with them. You learn who is nice, and who maybe isn't. Conventions are a good way to observe personalities for yourself because usually they're pretending to be a character and their presence on social media is likely to be well-planned and filtered. You might even get to have a nice conversation with them if they're wandering around and aren't being hurried away. If you are willing to pay some extra money for photo ops or autographs, you get a little extra time with them, even though everyone moves pretty quickly. At least you'll have a picture where your favorite actor is hugging you and it's a moment you'll cherish forever.

If you're looking for a convention you might be interested in, Creation Entertainment is a good place to start. They are in charge of producing conventions for other popular television shows like Star Trek, The Vampire Diaries, and Once Upon a Time.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!

There is nothing quite like family.

Family is kinda like that one ex that you always find yourself running back to (except without all the regret and the angsty breakup texts that come along with it).

No matter how long your class is, there's always time for the mind to wander. Much like taking a shower or trying to fall asleep, sitting in a classroom can be a time when you get some of your best ideas. But, more than likely, you're probably just trying to mentally cope with listening to a boring lecturer drone on and on. Perhaps some of the following Aristotle-esque thoughts have popped into your head during class.

The Belchers hold the key to a better life.

Bob's Burgers is arguably one of the best and most well-written shows on tv today. That, and it's just plain hilarious. From Louise's crazy antics to Tina's deadpan self-confidence, whether they are planning ways to take over school or craft better burgers, the Belchers know how to have fun. They may not be anywhere close to organized or put together, but they do offer up some wise words once and awhile.
