Many people who come to Buffalo tour around the Queen City expecting to see grand architecture and monumental channels. Although many of the buildings no longer exist, as they were not built to last long, a good handful of them still stand. Even though it is known as the small big city, there is always something to do, especially during the summer with a variety of tours at some of the many historic locations listed below.
1. Silo City - Grain Elevator - First Ward

The grain elevators of Buffalo attract a vast amount of people with the several events planned at the location throughout the year. The most common event is the grounded and vertical tour, admission fees vary per year but you have the chance to travel around these eerie structures. Other events include flea markets, concerts, the paddle and kayak tour along the water, theatre productions, and installations.
2. Buffalo Main Light

Surrounded by historic plaques about the Buffalo waterfront, the Buffalo Main Light just recently celebrating a re-lighting event. Originally lit in 1833 it was deactivated in 1914. After being repaired in 2011 the lighthouse has been open to public tours ever since. While the tours may be limited, you also have the option to walk up to the lighthouse yourself.
3. Forest Lawn Cemetery
1411 Delaware Ave., Buffalo, NY 14209
From June to October, this historic cemetery has a list of guided tours to experience the architecture and waterways. With 269 acres the tours do not stop when fall hits, events get moved indoors and involve musical performances. There is also a guide on the trolley and they will take you through time to learn about its memorable past.
4. Shea's Performing Arts Center
650 Main St., Buffalo, NY 14202
Often eye-catching with its big lit-up sign outside, Shea’s Performing Arts Center was built in the early twentieth century for silent films. Now it hosts several Broadway musicals and the interior resembles European palaces in the 17th and 18th centuries. This year performances include: Maxwell, Season 8. The Queens., Bring It! Live, Finding Neverland, An American in Paris, Joe Bonamassa, The Piano Guys, and A Christmas Story.
5. Buffalo City Hall

Standing at 378 feet, Buffalo City Hall is one of the largest city halls in America. Guided tours are free with no reservation, though donations are appreciated, and take about an hour long. The tour includes peeking in the Mayor’s Office, viewing the Council Chambers, and taking in the sight of the Observation Deck. You are also able to call ahead to receive a private tour, as normal tours are from Monday to Friday and expect a group of at least 10 people.
